This is easily one of the funniest episodes of Back Issues I have ever seen. Y'all was on one when y'all recorded this!
This is the season I always look foward to Back Issues episodes, wanting to see what spooky/horror related books you guys wind up discussing. They tend to be the best, especially when Tiffany is hosting.
One book I really hope they one day get to is X-Men: Curse of the Mutants, great combo of X-Men and Blade fighting vampires. An excellent action/horror crossover.
I needed this, and I needed it to be 100 minutes long.
So good
At that time Claremont was also writing Xtreme X-Men.
Sal really gave it his all with the editing
Oh god, crazy stories like this always have, crazy looking… kinda ugly art. 😅
Remember Evolution with David Duchovny? The aliens from that movie "evolved" super fast due to their unique physiology interacting and adapting when exposed to fire.
Evolution came out in 2001 and JLA: Scary Monsters came out 2003… It's like Clairmont had the movie on in the background and jumbled a few details around like replacing fire with cold and the JLA with Head & Shoulders shampoo.

I think that Wonder Woman keeps turning into things in JLA adventures It's because they know she's made out of magic clay and they know that in the ending she will be fine.
It’s the Scary Monsters vs the “Superfreaks”
I saw Legend, Ben, though i can’t say i heard it to well with Cruise whispering all his lines. Tim curry is a legend but at best the movie is a three maybe even a two
Hey! I SAW "THE LEGEND"!!…((
It’s so funny. The characters you guys hate the most are always my favorites! Lobo, Guy Gardner, Booster Gold, Plastic Man, Damian Wayne 😂 it will never end.
I knew Jon was into literally hot ladies from Human Target where he likes Fire. But, there were two in this episode counting the one from Kelly's run. Jon fans are there any more ladies with fire powers that Jon has been with? I am just curious if this is as frequent with Clark and L.L or Kitty Pryde's thing for Petes.
Great back issues everyone especially tiffany telling this amazing story in my opinion. 🙂
I'm crossing my fingers for a Junji Ito episode someday
Wonder Woman always gets turned into things because shes made of clay
I saw Legend Ben. Great movie!
1:04:21 Wait? Winter? Eldritch? Black Winter, is that you?
Speaking of Native DC characters, it sucks there's a small number of them, besides Bill and Charles Great Eagle.
It's okay, Tiffany. I can tell you, as an indigenous person (Pit River Achumawi), that there's no need to feel any type of way about the stereotype of Native American mysticism in this book. Trust me, that's one stereotype that we actually find hilarious. Yes, we are a proud people with a beautiful culture and rich history, but we are also the first ones to laugh at our own stereotypes, and as long as people aren't laughing at us, we always welcome everyone to laugh with us.
A'ho and Happy Halloween everybody!
Big picture take away; Superman is only capable of being Superman because he has no concept of pain and discomfort. If he did he'd be as much of a weak fallible scumbag as the rest of humanity. He can only believe in the goodness of others because he doesn't really understand what they have to deal with all the time. So an idealist. Headcanon.
When are we going to get Ben’s Back Issue Episode about the comic adaptation of Legend?
I am so stoked you guys are finally doing this book! It is a perfect back issues book in my opinion. Great episode, everyone made good points and observations – even Ben! I always look forward to the Halloween episodes.
"Foreshadowing"….. I foreshadow that I'll love this episode of Back Issues.
Why is this so long? 😨
The Ken burns part killed me!! ☠️
Omg is this the JLA meets the Shining?! Honestly id love to see that though.
Claremont was really working through some unresolved issues with this one
Honestly, from the description of the story, with some heavy fixing of the scientific ideas this could've really been interesting.
I was sure that the whole time the creature was only maybe half physically there and half mentally altering their perception of reality and THAT'S how it could keep up with Flash, because he didn't even really try to run from them because that is something he could mever imagine happening and that specifically gets targeted.
And the monsters being naturally from a place that is so cold that even atoms move slowly and just being able to move and evolve more freely in a warmer place
Really enjoyed this episode. I remember finding this when I was 11 I was Cool the justice league fighting monsters this will be epic.. and every issue I was like… But what is happening? And totally thought at the end hold on… Isn't that just Jean Grey??? Why The hell didn't Batman call Alfred and say bring me my predator armor and your elephant gun I gotta fight WW and what in the name of salt and vinegar crisps is the flash doing in this book?? Like a small child getting caught at tag he's sat with his head in his hands like I got caught I'm out 🙁
Also really liked it when Tiffany told us where other writers and artists were during the books creation. That was a really nice touch. Keep up the good work guys 👍 much love from the UK
Wearing Plastic Man as a Symbiote is a choice.
So good
Hey guys! Please do Age of Apocalypse!🙏🏼
Tiffany is better as the host than on the couch. Her comic knowledge is too vast to “pretend” she doesn’t know stuff like Ben and Ethan
Is that Taylor Ham on Ben’s shirt?
The real Scary Monsters were the the actions of Plastic Man Claremont wrote along the way
I always appreciate the comic creation lore discussions.
Legit question. Is Ben a scientist or something of the sort?
You guys rule, and I watched the whole video, but this book sounds incredibly dull.
This was such an entertaining and funny spooky episode. It blew my mind that Chris Claremont wrote for the JLA.
Awesome! It's always interesting to see videos on books that are just "out of time" lol
You don’t have to pick a great book to make a great Back Issues!
Oh hey lets just use the same title that David Bowie used for one of the greatest rock albums of all time so no pressure guys, im sure we can live up to it.(puts palm to face and shakes head).
Plastic man is one of my favorite superhero characters of all time. Love the design and I love how flawed he is as a person using his abilities to mask his imperfections
