  1. My family was living in nearby Riceville TN on the day of the accident. My mother commuted on I-75 S every morning to Cleveland. She told me that day, if she had been a minute late leaving the house that morning, she would have died in the wrecks. She was shocked when news came in about the crashes when she was at work that day.

  2. Just how fast you would suddenly be in super dense fog from perfect visibility in this area could not be overstated! Tennessee also continued to improve the safety of this area over the years with rumble strips, reflective bumps, extra wide painted shoulders, automatic gates to close off entrance ramps and better pre warning systems. Bottom line is the area is simply a very risky, damp, high altitude place to travel and it only takes 1 stupid driver to bring down 100 responsible drivers

  3. A better metaphor for the Boomers after fall of USSR I cannot imagine. Hurtling through the fog at top speed in vehicles that have poor safety features on roads built when they were children. The fates, sufficiently tempted, spell out the damage in crimson letters on the blacktop. "Slow down you fools! Look around! They all had the same goal! They all used the same tools! Yet their failure is written here. People with common cause but without common purpose, and without purpose a human is as replaceable as a semi trailer or late model sedan."

    We're left with the footage

  4. Evidence people are stupid these days. If you can't see whats ahead of you, why drive fast and if you do and have an accident sue the government for not putting up warning signs to indicate you can't see whats ahead of you. and then the government pays out to these idiots instead of fining them a stupid tax.

  5. I always thought the 55mph restriction left from oil crisis made pike ups likely. Look at the California 1950 freeway videos and everyone is tailgating. A spike on the steering wheel over the heart would eventually get used to. Humans hah. Kids doing extreme sports vestigial risk thrill from need to catch mammoths?

  6. Yeah the fog in that stretch of 75 in Tennessee is really bad I'm coming through as several times in a truck hand in a car it is terrifying and it could even worse if you go up the mountain

  7. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! You have been creating superb content since day one. I hate to only acknowledge this now, but I am so I happy for you! EVERY VIDEO is something special so every day you publish a video should be celebrated (especially when they're over an hour long XD).
Anyway, have a great day John, and please do something nice for the 200th besides just a latte. LOL

  8. Started casually listening while getting ready for bed. Then realize this happened about 20 miles from my childhood home. I’ve driven through that section many many times and never knew about this accident. Must have been so scary!

  9. Interesting places from the archives please. I've been through this section of I-75 many many times. The road stripes are reflective and the road condition is pristine. Super cool to see something reviewed that I've experienced.

  10. you should do both strange places and interesting people in my opinion! both would be great to watch considering the amount of care that's clearly put into these videos, especially talking a bit more in-depth about some of the people involved with previously covered disasters or just somewhere that's strange/interesting that's worth discussing despite its lack of disastrous events (though I will still forever love the disaster videos you do. absolutely excellent videos indeed!)

  11. Bowater is unfortunately still notorious in the local history of Tennessee, even though there is no scientific evidence that they were in any way responsible for the creation of fog in the area. But people need someone to blame, and suing Bowater was more likely to yield results than suing the state. McMinn County is very poor, with a median household income of $37,146 as of 2010. Death and injury incur costs that would devastate the families.

That said, people in Tennessee are perfectly aware of how treacherous the highways can be, especially through the mountains, and driving in thick fog is just foolish.
