The Horrifying Death of 3 people | The Kings Island Disasters

Two of the most bizarre fatal incidents to ever happen in American amusement parks took place at Kings Island Park in Cincinnati. What was quite horrifying and baffling about these freak incidents, was the fact that they both happened within the same hour.
One incident resulted in the death of 2 people by drowning and electrocution, and the second incident which happened less than an hour later, involved a woman falling more than 60 feet from a ride. Kings Island is perhaps one of the top three most popular amusement parks in America, and it is quite massive too, covering an area of about 364 acres. It is located about 24 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio. It was opened in 1972 at the cost of more than 300 million dollars.
In 1991, Timothy Benning suffered serious injuries and his friend William Haithcoat and Kings’ Island park employee Darrel Robertson died in a very bizarre and heartbreaking incident in one of the park’s ponds. On the same day, Candy Taylor, was on the carousel-like Flight Commander ride before
she was hurled 60 feet to the ground. The 2 incidents took place within the same hour. In 2006, 27 were injured while on the Son of Beast roller coaster after a wooden beam cracked from the weight of the riders. An engineer later claimed in court that the park’s owners were “negligent” and “put passengers at risk” for not fixing the ride in the proper format.

I have no clue why amusement park accidents fascinate me so much, maybe it's the idea that even a happy day can end tragic.
The voice is back! I hope you really give this park some hell today!!
I went to Kings Island when I was young. I loved riding roller coasters.
I used to go there every year, sometimes even multiple times a year.
Sad 🙁 The Flight Commander ride had been removed long before I'd gone there. I definitely rode Son of Beast a few times, though
Also they shouldn't have live animals at amusement parks
7:08 Goes to show you should never drink and drive while using a ride. 😆
8:11 "It was truly a mysterious and shocking day…"
Shocking for sure…perhaps, electrifying. 😉
interesting video
I’ve been going to Kings Island since 1977. There was a time I didn’t go, which would’ve been during the flight commander and the son of beast. The beast is my favorite ride though.
watching this as i always go to kings island 😳
Park designers need to bear in mind that they are designing parks that will have many teenagers in attendance. They are a different species and act quite differently from adults or prepubescent children. For example, saying "keep out" means the opposite to them as it does to the rest of us. I blame bad design and poor maintenance rather than the teenagers. Such a tragedy.
I've been to King's Island a few times. They do have some of the best and ruff roller coasters around. But mostly they where safe, the thing that I experienced the most is being tossed around a lot. But with all amusement rides and parts people don't keep their equipment running properly or people don't follow the rules things always end up happening
I love Kings Island, i'm a passholder and go several times a year. I always feel safe when I go.
I love it I go all the time 10:13
Repent. The end is near. Jesus IS the only way into Heaven. Ask Him into your life, cleanse YOU from ALL unrighteousness. Make Him your Lord & your Savior. One day, YOU will go to Heaven. Amen.
I've been to KI twice and had a blast each time. It was in 1985 that I went and at that time it was a very safe park. I've been corresponding with a guy from the Ohio Dept. of Agriculture (ODA) about why they are the ones inspecting the rides. When one thinks of Agriculture they don't normally think of "ride inspectors", but apparently in Ohio, that's part of what they do. Baffling! Here in Washington state they have folks from L & I do them, which honestly makes MORE sense! They deal with work related accidents and the like, so why not? Just wanted to share that little tid bit since we ARE talking about accidents.
I've seen things at KI that I absolutely can't explain. The little cemetery at the top of the parking lot tends to give me a weird vibe when I am near it. I have also seen mist around the base of the tower where Johnny fell. The Beast at night also has some eerie stories.
I used to frequent Kings Isand on a yearly basis each summer while traveling with family. Although I never did like the rollercoasters. The water park is fun though.
You are hilarious click baity. The Bat was not removed because it was too intense, in fact Arrow suspended coasters are mild-medium family rides. It was removed, because Arrow poorly engineered the track and it was removed before it was a safety issue. You also mention the flight commander ride. You say "before the park made the obvious modifications". How is it obvious to the park, when the ride manufacturer designed it this way, and it was operated within the manufacturers specs. Also hundreds of thousands of passengers rode before the incident, so how was it obvious the park should have modified the ride outside of Intamins specs?
I was on my senior trip that day it was madness & Thanks D🖤
6.9.1991 those 3 nines upside down is 666 and just throw an actual 6 for measure 6666 🤔 must of been an evil entity in the park that day🤷🏽♀️
I've been a lifelong resident of Ohio. We used to go to King's Island every year. I was at King's Island when the woman was killed on Flight Commander. She fell 60 feet head first. Come to find out (at least what was said on local news a while later), she was very drunk and she went limp (maybe passed out?) and she came right out from under her shoulder restraint as she was hanging upside down (because you could make them spin, go upside down, etc). Back then you could get a glass of beer at refreshment stands/restaurants. I think they pretty much did away with it after that.
Didn't find out about the other 2 deaths that day until we got back to our hotel and saw it on the news.
Weirdly, we were also there the day of the Son Of Beast accident. We were on the Top Gun coaster next to it and saw a train stopped on the first hill of the SOB and it was still there after we got off.
I STILL LOVE King's Island. I like it more than Cedar Point.
This is to sad 😢 Three lives were taken
Wow hope to see you channel grow your content is amazing!
I live 2 minutes from kings island n my kids go almost everyday… the bat was my fave
No fault lies with Benning. It's entirely on the park for having a body of water highly electrified, accessible to park visitors.
It was "unearthed" the wire was live!!!
My 🙏s go out to both families who lost a loved one on This sad day, it could of all been avoided had the pond had sorted out the exposed wire, & a circuit breaker in place, the Son of Beast was a Death Trap the flight commander ride should of had proper safety restraints & Shouldn't of allowed the woman intoxicated to ride the ride on her own she should never of been allowed to go on alone, I've never been to this park & I wouldn't want to, it looks like all there safety standards haven't been updated since 1972 it's a death trap, I experienced a Bad Feeling from a ride in the UK before the accident happened & I refuse to go back to that amusement park.
I was there that day and it was absolutely a strange day!! I remember the staff closing off a large part of the park and seeing a helicopter hovering nearby then not to long afterwards the staff closed off another part and yet again another helicopter hovering nearby.I remember leaving early thereafter and it took years for me to find our what had happened. It was also red shirt day which was an early version of what became Pride night.I love Kings Island but it does always have a creepy vibe when I go now after all that has occurred
911 dispatch: hey you guys still at the park?
Paramedics: yes
911 dispatch: good, but also bad.
One of my favorite childhood memories. I was there when Evel Knievel jumped his bike over several buses. When I got my driver's license and season passes. Buddies and myself go every chance we had. Especially Monday thru Thursday. Park is not that crowded. Now retired from a painting company that worked there many times before the season started. When Invertigo first built. I got to ride before the public did. It's sad people lost their lives and were hurt. But the bottom line is. People pay to get scared. A fun scare. King's Island and other amusement parks are blamed when people act out stupid ideas. BS!!
Love KI.. in fact, we were both born the same year. Lol. Have been going there since I was a child. The only problem I ever had on a ride was riding Son of Beast..and this was when it still had the loop. It was the worst ride ever. Beat the crap out of me and anyone who rode it. Other than that, I never had any issues. My favorite ride is the rollercoaster Diamondback…Amazing! The Beast is a record holding wooden coaster that is a must do also. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys amusement parks to go!
Kings Dominion in virginia also had a similar ride to flight commander that was known as sky pilot. It was removed from the park shortly after the accident at kings island.
Very unfortunate, yet preventable deaths. Ground fault should ALWAYS be used in this application of pumps & water bodies. In the case of Flight Trainer, ride protocol was NOT observed. The fact the victim was intoxicated likely caused them to hit the joystick inverting the pod. A second persons physical being would have prevented her from sliding on the seat to the point she was no longer restrained by the harness. There was an incident in Houston, TX @ the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo where an intoxicated rider fell and died from a roller coaster @ the carnival on the last day of the rodeo.
Loving all these videos about death coming into my recommended, definitely not concerned.
