  10. Thank you. Not quite a fan of Anno or the new age 'serio-mechas' but do respect his work and efforts and that of yours in presenting this as well, hope your hand is doing better. This has been fairly eye opening for me, especially in regards to the late early age of the anime and animation industry of Japan, and in general, thank you.

I have to say man, I admire your work so much, the things that stand out to me are the insane immersion into the absolute molecules of the subject matter you're presenting, the integrity of the presentation in sticking to the researched facts rather than pushing some absurd and completely forced ideas with the sole purpose of proving to the viewer how clever you are (like some of your peers do, unfortunately) and the fluidity of the storytelling. I really hope you'll get the recognition you so clearly deserve. Congratulations!

  21. I don't have many things to say that haven't already been said already but this video, this whole project, is a definite masterpiece and the work and effort put into this is more than obvious. Truly an incredible video. As someone who has also sifted through countless interviews with Anno and other people he has worked with I only have a smidgen of understanding of how long collecting all these quotes must of taken, especially trying to understand what people meant. Again, this is a beautiful retrospective on Anno and I hope others see that too 🙂

  22. This is great, you already know.
    Sad that FLCL was glossed over so briefly (I’m still at Kari Kano while writing this)
    It’s not anno’s project, but it’s a parody of eva and many other things (you already know) and I would love a dossier like this one for FLCL. I have watched it more than anything else, over 50 times since I first saw it 20 years ago, and still find it fascinating, though that’s probably because it was so formative for me, but also because it’s so dense. No one talks about the original tv airing in Japan, or the VHS release. I wonder if there were other cuts.

  33. I kinda expected for Shin Ultraman to end the video. Not that I am complaining but I saw it 2 months ago and I don´t even live in Japan. It could have closed the bridge to the start of his career as that Ultraman short was a leitmotiv of the video. It and Shin Kaman Rider might make for a good epilogue in a year. I bet he makes a live-action Yamato movie one of these days as he already directed a go Nagai work so him making a Devilman film or something like that might be redundant. Yamato is his rosetta stone in a way and he already dictated an OP for the reboot OVAs.

    The 83 Ultraman short is a plot point the in the TV drama for Blazing Transfer Student. Not a manga/show by Anno but a fictionalized version of him is a supporting character. That really shows what a presence he is in Japanese media. The biographical manga by his wife was adapted into motion comics and a recent ONA that goes over the issues Khara faced. His comings and going really messed with the staff.
