A New Year means it’s time to resurrect the Green Man – just like they did at the Nightfort. It’s new theory time friends – the origins of the Night’s Watch and the Nightfort, and why that involves the green men from the Isle of Faces!

Happy New Year!
Maybe the 13th leader means leader of the 13?
WTH. I must be slow.. someone enlighten me on how to get the dope ass asoiaf emojis.. what am I missing 😩
About a month ago I got the notion that coldhands could be a skin-changer in a dead body, and I really liked to hear other people connecting him with skin-changing too.I don't think it is 100% certain that Jon is in fact dead though. He was stabbed, and he warged ghost, but why would that mean that he is dead? I think his body could die later after he got more experience with his skin-changing abilities.
Wick can also mean "green or alive". It is old English… still used today in some regional dialects.
Re TWOW release date. My personal theory is that GRRM is significantly changing what is included in the book, due to the huge success of GoT and the massive increase in redearship. I think he might be taking a leaf out of Margaret Atwood's book with The Handmaid's Tale, by which I mean that the sequel novel refers to things that only happen in the TV show. They feed into and refer to each other as canon.
For example, the Aegon's dream reveal in HoTD and RLJ in GoT. There is no point revealing them in the same way in the novels now as it won't make the same impact. It will also allow him to keep the books down to 7 if there looks like it might end up as more. Which is kind of ironic, what if we are actually, kind of, getting novels, but through and in collaboration with the TV shows.
Just a thought.
I’m watching this on Monday and it’s blowing my mind. You need a PhD in this subject!
Caught the replay this morning. Can't watch live at the moment it's too late here and I'm an early bird 🤣 Just wanted to wish you Happy New Year x
Thanks for this LmL! I am doing a reread, following oldnewdude, and this symbolic analysis adds a lot to my enjoyment of it.
Sounds like a phlegm thing rather than a sore throat. Sounds like the tea is helping. Hope you’re not getting overwhelmed with “help” on the subject. Just sending healthy vibes your way.😁Thanx for the stream!
Great stream. Glad I caught it on the replay.
Happy New Year DL!
There was the Corpse Queen in Spain
I wish we could see the green men in the Isle of Faces on House of the Dragon, but i doubt it. Great stream!
The children helped organize the Watch, and on the Other side of the wall, did they set up the Other's watch to keep the Westerosi on their side of the Wall…and the free folk were trapped and sh@t out if luck? Did the children think their magic put the Other's asleep under the snow, but it's not holding anymore?
I always feel like I'm taking an online college course on ASOIAF lore with these types of streams. Feel like I should be taking notes for the test! Lol
That is not dead which can eternal lie and with strange aeons, even death may die. So glad this series is back!
What a great way to start the new year, an almost 3 hour stream happy dance thank you!
am I the only one who takes lml into the bathroom? i’ve taken many a deuces with you sir 🫡
oh my goodness the dragon as three heads. what if its jon. jon is the dragon with three heads, his head his dragon head his wolf head
He assumes Breaking of the Arm of Dorne was the goal. The first men just assumed that was because that's what happened. There's a good reason to believe it wasn't. It has to do with how many sacrifices it required. A thousand may not be as big a loss as we assume. We don't know how many Children of the Forest were alive in the past, but we so know of a storage space they could find the numbers required. Without a single living member dying. There could be thousands, or tens of thousands. inside the Weirnet. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-We also know they sacrificed First Mem to the trees. I doubt they'd care about sacrificing a thousand First Men's "souls" that ended up part of the Weirnet. It's win-win. all around. If they were desperate enough what's a thousand First Men tainting the Weirnet versus their extinction? They only realize after sacrificing lives within the Weirnet had consequences. Breaking of the Arm of Dorne was only one of them. The Others could be some of those "souls" they tried sacrificing, that's why the Others are so angry with The Children. Accepting their time has passed because of what they did makes sense.
Each streams blows my freaking mind. How do you decipher George’s work so well
Starting the first stream of the year with a mute. Very good! Looking forward to all your content this year!
Happy new year 🎉 🎉🎉
A little peppermint oil dabbed on the throat works wonders for that scratchy tickle 😉
THANK YOU for talking about Bedwick AKA Giant!!
I'm obsessed with this character, who's so overlooked.
LOVE the ironic nickname (inverse of "Small Paul" or how in classic cartoons with gangsters there's always a refrigerator-sized guy named "Tiny")
Giant's appearance, skills and behavior screams CotF to me, and I think it's a strong hint to interpret the "Wake giants from the earth" line as actually referring to the CotF.
Thank you for a lovely stream and take care of your voice! 🌿🍯🫖
I was literally changing from green clothes to black clothes whilst listening to this at about 1:45 and I had one of those 'shit-where's-the-camera' moments…😂
Bus journeys would be intolerable without the addition of symbolic analysis
Dude…more “hold” tunes comin’?! Sick! I literally praise Garth to your videos
Ice Wizards… Azor Ahai… Lion of the Night… Demons… Far East
I think we cracked the code on what Tolkein's Blue Wizards were up to this whole time
Great idea for your 2023 resolution! Have you tried dry herb vapes? They are much easier on the lungs, much less irritation 😁
Great stuff as always LML …i know people get upset about the breaks and bird care, but I've been watching long enough where it's just become part of the charm.
Praise Garth
Hey, David. Are you safe from the flooding? Cloud rivers are no joke, especially with your local geology. Is there anything you need? We're a community. We are here for each other.
Happy Mute Year!!
Sometimes all the timeline wibbly wobbliness pushes me towards the "the Long Night never happened" theories 😅 I think it maybe kinda makes sense that The Wall would have been built pre-emptively rather than in the midst of or after the fight was done. (The Valyrians/Targaryens having premonition of an enemy from the north seems to strengthen this too.)
How is Qarth relevant to this stream?
Qarth is thematically linked to the weirwoods and specifically the Night Fort
Both have a great magical face door that opens its mouth to devour all who enter.
Like the great fortresses of the First Men in Westeros, Qarth was built around a mystical grove of magic trees.
Like Bloodraven and the dreamers, the undying are tended to by diminutive humanoid servitors (who I'm not convinced aren't Children Of The Forest themselves)
I believe there will be a reveal about this in Winds or Dream. Why else neglect to include such an important place in the world book?
Spot on about Azor Ahai and the Night's King. I also believe he was Brandon Gardener (AKA Brandon of the Bloody Blade) who was stripped (made stark) of his name and set up his own kingdom at Winterfell. The night's king is at the bottom of the Winterfell litchcellar.
You do an amazing job, but honestly at this point I would be more impressed with George if he indeed thought this far ahead and most of your theories did turn out to be true. The map of symbolism George wrote in to be decoded would be super impressive if these theories come to fruition.
For the algorithm
I wonder if the "hinge of the world" Mel describes at the wall is because of that weirwood at The Nightfort. I bet she could do some spooky stuff if she burned it!
Also I think George made a comment about needing to figure out a character's name before he can do anything with them, which is why all of the names have so much meaning when you dig into them.
When I commented bout this on one of your earlier videos I wasn’t sure, but holy hot damn going through all those nights watch brothers and their names/sigils all lining up with wierwood/green man symbolism convinced me. If GRRM is deftly doing all of that, there’s no way all the other wordplay stuff isn’t intentional. Praise Garth and Good Work!!!
Umm i don’t know if you get this question a lot, but I’m curious about which are your favorite books?
Every time you delve this deep it makes me wonder at your commitment to research and the depth of George's creation. Makes me all that much more pumped for the end of the story bc of course the end will not be the end.
Can't recall if you covered it in the stream but another significant thing about Winton Stout being from Barrowton is that one of the maester ideas in regards to the Corpse Queen is that she may have been a daughter of a Barrow King
“This realm deserves a better kind of zombie…and I’m gonna give it to em.” – Bran, Allegedly
Lol you were horns because your aren’t very entertaining. ser Hunts is way better dude! You wish you could stream like him
On the ambiguity of "Man who lead the night's watch" vs Lord Commander: What does it do to the picture of Night's King to add on characters who have fit that exact wording without being LC? Off the top of my head that adds Ser Waymar, Benjen, & Donal Noye.
Also there's something to be said for the rangers following Mance's trail making (former crow) Mance a form of "man who leads the Night's Watch." Like being lead by the crone's light.
A crow crone.
Love the symbolism <3
