You are not giggling at the wrong parts are you? The fact you have this weird smile on your face makes me think you might be thinking this is funny that is the circumstances are funny. Either that or you are autistic. I don’t find this situation worth giggling about.
Hey man I understand it's a pain in the rear to do a second take but maybe you should have given it another try instead of keeping the one where you giggle uncontrollably about tens of thousands of people dying.
The laugh during the fire tornados bit, odd. If it's a nervous laugh, fine, I get it, nerves can that. Still though, do a retake, as just come across as unprofessional on a serious topic.
Apparently nobody has watched your previous videos Daven. Maybe work on the edits to remove any nervous or hindsight laughter (aka knowing how history gleans humor in some of the worst ways) since whole mess load of people cant see past that and assume you find humor in mass loss of life and destruction of property.
Let's see these people record a video cold-reading a script, that millions might see and be completely "you" and do no involuntary actions or be DAMNED. 😐 Use your heads people and stop being so damned caught up in your sensitivities here.
Not that this guy is bad or anything, but I’m just too accustomed to Simon that I have low tolerance for any other narrators. Yeah, it’s a “me problem”.
This wasn’t forgotten by me, I never knew. It’s amazing how quickly the phoenix rose from the flames to become a world power. Thank you for the thorough look into a terrible disaster and its aftermath, Daven!
Was not forgotten by me either, did not know it. Thank you for this intriguing bit of knowledge that helps further stitch together the total timeline of events leading up to and including WW II. Great video, thank you!
A great country misled by people who wanted power and profit from the chaos. Japan was lucky that the USA was in control of it after the war. If the USSR had been in control, Japan would have suffered the fate of the Eastern European nations which the West allowed the USSR to dictate and dominate for decades.
After learning more about the pacific theater pre pearl harbor i'm more inclined to toss out the eurocentric timeline and say WWII started when the Japanese invaded manchuria in 1931. Anyone else feel that way?
I don't what the reason is but the narrator seems to find the horrors associated with the earthquake a little amusing. If you are dealing with a natural catastrophe it's probably better to restrain your delight
Complete tripe! CDRE Perry’s method of forcing global trade upon Japan included a levy on all exports paid directly to the USA, no matter who Japan was trading with. He demonstrated the consequences should Japan not agree to the document his President had given him by firing canon from his battleship directly at houses facing the harbour. More Japanese died that day than xenophobic attacks on Koreans after the earthquake in 1923.
Effectively he’d turned up to enforce a White House approved protection racket. And the USA only looked on Japan as a company to ponce off.
The earthquake saw many reactions but the USA assistance was charged for. It wasn’t aid and wasn’t free.
Thereafter Japan was desperate to outgun the Americans at sea and finally rid themselves of this tax on their economic growth.
This charge through the Perry Agreement was only dropped after WW2 and while Pearl Harbour is presented as an unprovoked attack in the US, the rest of the world know America had been bullying Japan to keep paying this protection money.
With or without the earthquake the elements leading to Japan's fascist militarism were present and the reaction to Western imperialism was inevitable. Also, it's not accurate to say that Japan fought alongside Nazi Germany as the alliance was little more than an agreement on paper.
Good sir, you are pulling off that Castro very nicely. I feel like I haven’t heard your voice since you were talking about buying a plane on the podcast!
Guys… it's extremely common for folks to laugh for several reasons outside of pure humor or amusement including being nervous and straight up coping with the absurd level of tragedy. Just let the host display a bit of genuine humanity.
We don't know how many takes it took for him to get through it, his actual feelings of the events, and the other unknowns. In this case I think its best to give him the benefit of the doubt

Yes I'm sure that fire tornado that swept through that military depot was quite the sight to see. Considering it kill something like 38,000 people.
2nd
I know how you feel, buddy! Reading about natural disasters cracks me up too!
Damn, Keeps might work a little too well. Simon's hair is looking great 😅
It sounds like this guy is laughing here and there while talking about the people dying during and just after the earthquake!!!

He is laughing because its so insane. It’s like everything could happen did happen. The only thing missing is Godzilla. I see why he is laughing.

Daven! We love you! The man behind the scenes that secretly runs everything!
These comments… don’t see Simon, have no idea this is his boss/partner… RAGE!!!
It’s obviously a defense mechanism

Boring as fuck where is simon
My one comment, slow down. You're a little too fast. I feel a little rushed watching
The guffawing is particularly jarring to me.
Confusing choice but fascinating episode, I'll never complain about a highlight history upload though..
Daven, the power behind the Fact Boi!

Insightful. Thanks!
One of those things where if you weren't laughing you'd start crying

Holy smokes. No idea this happened. Crazy.
Thanks

Some points in the video, the narrator is actually laughing. That is rather out of place!
My goodness, what a confluence of horrible events!
With or without the earthquake the elements leading to Japan's fascist militarism were present and the reaction to Western imperialism was inevitable. Also, it's not accurate to say that Japan fought alongside Nazi Germany as the alliance was little more than an agreement on paper.
This is all news to me. Thank you!
Japan has always been friggin weird.
1:22 "Leyoshi" oh no… did someone misread an upper case i as a lower case L?
Oh god its actually spelled "Leyoshi" in the subtitles lmao
Good sir, you are pulling off that Castro very nicely. I feel like I haven’t heard your voice since you were talking about buying a plane on the podcast!
1:20 It's Ieyoshi, not Leyoshi.
Nooooo, why on earth would you think Ieyoshi – capital i ! – would be pronounced "Leyoshi"?? 🙁
Thank you for using the word "exacerbate" correctly.

And people say we (Americans) are war criminals for dropping the atomic bombs ? HA ! Japan is a never ending string of war crimes up until 1945 !
