The Football Club Run By A War Criminal

Only three teams have been crowned as Serbian champions since the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1992; Partizan Belgrade, Red Star Belgrade, and FK Obilić.

Whilst Partizan and Red Star have long been two of the biggest and most successful teams in the region, Obilić came out of nowhere in the 1990s, bankrolled by a notorious warlord who was wanted by Interpol.

In this documentary, HITC Sevens takes a look at one of the most controversial football clubs, and one of the most contentious league titles, of all time, along with Željko Ražnatović – better known as Arkan – who was the man behind that success.

  1. Great as usual, Alfie. I'm starting to think you play a 6 degrees of Hull City game to figure out your next topic. Keep those references coming in the form of such great content.

  2. To ad some honesty to former Obilic players, many of them had succesful European carriers afterwards. For example midfilders Vukomanovic, Juskic, Grozdic and Sarac played for 1st Belgian league-Standard Liege, Bundesliga side-Nurnberg, 1st dutch divison-Vitesse and Ligue 1-Lens and Austria's Sturm Graz respectively. That somewhat proves that these were good players, lifted from Serbian 2nd division and proved themselves with Obilic giving them a shot when no other club wanted so.

  5. The "3 different national teams" Savo Milosevic represented are actually one same national team that simply changed name 3 times just as his country did.

  6. In 1991, Red Star and Partizan had the best YUGOSLAV players (not only Serbian as you said) and in 1993 they suffered from UN sanctions that made all FR Yugoslav clubs and national team to be unable to participate in all international competitions until 1995. Why you dont read about FR Yugoslavia and the sanctions it suffered from being unable to play in EURO92 and Denmark played insted and won, until Yugoslavia playing the 1998 WC finally.
