The First 10,000 Days on Proxima Centauri B (Sci-Fi Documentary)

After a 100-year journey across 4.24 light-years of space, 4,752 passengers have finally arrived at their new planet. This is a sci-fi documentary, looking at the first 10,000 days on Proxima Centauri B.

This journey shows the future science of space travel, exploration, and future space technology.

Personal inspiration in creating this video comes from: the movie Interstellar, The Expanse TV show, and Carl Sagan’s Cosmos TV show.

Other topics in the video include: where on the planet will the colonists build their new settlement, life on Proxima Centauri B (the weather, geology, environment, the higher gravity), and the local solar system (the Alpha Centauri system), the 11 day orbit of the planet around its sun/star.

  1. The one element in this sci-fi documentary not considered is the possibility of "disclosure" of other extra-terrestrial species along mankind's journey to the stars. We still see ourselves as lonely voyagers breaking new ground in an empty, endless universe… but that really isn't the way things are shaping up on Terra Firma at the dawn of the 21st century. Ask the 20 odd thousand witnesses to the Phoenix Lights, military witnesses to the Rendlesham Forest incident or the dozens of school children at the Ariel School incident what they think 🙂

  2. Few hundred years later, human in Proxima B finally succeed in creating FTL tech and send couple of human back to Earth. They arrived 200,000 BC in pre-historic Earth, building family, mixed with the Neanderthals and created modern human.

  3. Truly fascinating. But one wonders how evolution would have progressed there if humans had not interrupted it and the possibility of similar intervention in our distant past.

  4. Following closely to see where nations and borders begin
Then economic divides followed by a class of the poor and the rich….and then politicians are born
Then wars of conquest and rivalries
And all hell breaks loose , romance and heartbreaks, prostitution, drug dealers
Ooh and I forgot a "New Religion" , will their God be the same as ours or they will create a superior one

  5. The ship's spinning doesn't 'generate' gravity, centripetal force in the rings 'simulates' gravity. During the 100-year voyage, the spin of the ship could be increased gradually over the years to equal the gravity of Proxima B's gravity by the time they reach the 80% mark of the voyage so that when the colonists arrive, they would already be accustomed to the higher gravity. Any physical adaptations by the humans to this higher gravity would already have taken place in successive generations.

  6. 12:42 He rightly highlights issues due to the lack of diversity, but almost every human pictured seems to be from the same race? I truly loved this video, but the extreme lack of diversity, without some plausible explanation, just seemed slightly unrealistic to me.

  7. Well… stellar lanscape from proxima centauri is not an "alien different lanscape" as said.
The only difference as seen by a naked eye would be 2 close extremely bright stars, alpha centauri A and B, a new very bright star near Cassopeia (the big W) which is the Sun, Sirius farther from Orion alignment, and obviously no more alpha centauri in the centauri constellation.
The thousands of other stars visible to naked eye wont move notably by eye, too far from us
