Thing is the Niners are in win-now mode – they can't wait around while Lance develops. Now Darnold has all the talent in the world – but played in two places that are AWFUL destinations for QBs. I think this is a much better situation for both Trey and Darnold. Trey is going to get to maybe learn from Dak, who is 29 and has a handful of prime years left – maybe. And Darnold gets something he never had – an organization with a coaching staff that has traditionally known how to protect their QBs (even though they do seem snakebitten at QB) – not to mention one that is built to win a Super Bowl right now.
