The Dark Spire – Unused Track (Original)

This is a new find, but surprisingly older than I thought. Apparently on the Japanese sample CD that came with the first print of The Dark Spire — we in the West would know our version as “Sounds From The Dark Spire” — there are two unused songs that got included in the CD. This was all the way back in ’08, when the game was first released.

This sampler CD is known as Genmu no Tou to Tsurugi no Okite Special Sound Tracks. The name uses a transliteration of the original Japanese title for The Dark Spire: “The Tower of Mist and the Sword of Law”.

Recently these two cut tracks were shared with two separate OST uploads on KH Insider Music. I had never heard them before, and couldn’t tell you if they exist on the original ROM (.nds) file of the game or not. The music for the game is gorgeous and I hadn’t seen anyone share these songs, so I figure I will now.

As for the song itself? I like it. Funky, and used the game’s main song motif in a fun way. My best guess is that this was a prototype for the groovy Theme C, which I believe plays during certain NPC interactions.
