RIP Benjamin Orr. Great vocalist.
This was a great deep dive. I never really took the time to think about the lyrics. I just always listened to the song and let the groove mellow me out. As far as 80s music, there is a great band from Canada called Triumph that is truly underrated.
This is the kind of song you'd expect to hear playing on the radio of a little pickup truck after being kidnapped as a child, being stuck in the middle between the two kidnappers with the AC blasting on its coolest setting, driving down a lonely stretch of road at night
Want some different 80s sounds give Depeshe Mode- Strange Love & Queensryche- Queen Of The RYCHE & The Smiths- Bigmouth Strikes Again a listen. All three are great examples of 80s songs that were both true to the 80s and also broke the mold of their respective genres of music.
Elliott Easton
My favorite band in 2 ND grade
You guys are i d i o t s. You laugh like high school boys. Completely missing the type of song that this is.
This was really good but definitely not their best
B 52's "Love Shack!" Official video. 1989 released.
Elton John. Madman accross the water.
This song has always made me cry
Something that was incredible in the 80’s that was slick as hell but very different is Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. It was produce by Trevor Horn who was one of the best producers back then. He went on to produce Seal among so many others.
The album Heartbeat City was produce by Mutt Lang,(also produced Def Leppard’s biggest albums and AC/DC as well, and turned country music on it’s head and changed it forever producing Shania Twain) so there’s the most advanced studio techniques being done on that album. The videos were iconic as well, and helped push that album for a long time. They were a huge band prior to that album and had hits all over the radio and in movie soundtracks for a long time and Heartbeat City just hit at the right time with the right elements.
Moving in stereo would come after this?
The math ain't mathin
My loved girlfriend had a heavy stroke and now she is really everything but healthy, now I am doing nearly everything for her, day by day, from early morning till late evening. CAUSE I love her so much.
It is a song about mental illness. Being there in difficult times and saying the hard things.
Something fresh hot and pushing the envelope? From the 80's? 1981 Brian Setzer of The Stray Cats, recorded a song called Stray Cat Strut. Maybe you Guys could take a look, listen. Appreciate all the effort you two gentlemen put into these reactions. I especially liked the insight about this song and relationships in general. Thank you
If Ben Orr had been put out front more often the Cars woulda been even bigger than they were. The girls LOVE Ben Orr. Ric quite talented but Ben was the dreamy one.
LOVE THE CARS!!!! Played on stage with guitarist Eliot Easton in the 90's!
Benjamin Orr (bassist and singer of "Drive" ) died of cancer quite a few years ago and lead singer Ric Ocasek died just a few years ago!!
You want something different and out there from the 80's: "Don't Let's Start" by They Might Be Giants!!!
Check out Stand Back by the great Stevie Nicks!
Great tune
Moving in stereo is one to check out
FYI:
Deftones have an excellent cover of this song, “Drive”, on their 2006 album “Saturday Night Wrist”. DEFINITELY WORTH CHECKING OUT!!
