The BIG problem with Convention Appearances.

I break down the costs of making an appearance at the Retro World Expo in Hartford, Connecticut in 2022. Special thanks to Bob …

  1. I know it's not much but it means a ton for us to go and see our favorite YouTube personalities! I had no idea the costs are but THANK YOU for going! You and Bob were great to meet and hopefully I'll see you at the next Retro World Expo! Hope you are doing well!

  2. Music City Multicon was the most recent one I went to… really only because I was visiting my family in TN. Got to take my son to his first convention and he loved it, so for me it was really just the cost of admission… but I got to meet the real, live Mr. Steve Nutter there and my son had a great time, so it was worth it!

  3. I just spent about $800 to go to VCF East, but I wasnt a featured guest or anything. It was OK, but yeah… If I'm getting others to buy tickets and come meet up with me at the show it would be cool to at least get a free pass for myself.

  4. The last convention i went was a retro game convention and had to pay €5 entree fee. My parents took me an my friend there and spent around €200 on gaming stuff. Had a great time there. Clearly nothing compared to what you have spend.

  5. That’s crazy to me. I’m glad you made some profit & I can’t wait until the next retro expo! I think my Dad might remember how much it cost for us to go, but I don’t remember myself how much it was to go. Also happy early birthday Brutus (sorry if I wrote his name wrong)!

  6. NGL you sound a tad bitter over the costs you incurred. Seeing how much it cost you was interesting – we don't usually hear about the cost aspect of attending a convention from a "content creators" view.
Do you think setting up a little shop at a retro convention where you sell inventory would be worthwhile?
    cheers

  7. Convention costs can get crazy when you have to drive a long distance and factor in hotel costs..
Not to mention big conventions are where you bring big money, because you might be walking away with some expensive toys >:) Less you spend it all on costs and fees

  8. I have only been to the midwest gaming classic in milwaukee which is about 90 mins away from my home. We also did a lot of other things while we were there. I have considered going to Portland Retro Gaming Expo or Too Many Games but I just don't have the clout I guess to justify spending the money to go out there. Sure I can meet people but like you, I want to network a bit and grow my brand. It would cost about $1k to make it out to too many games when you consider hotel and car.
