How To Make The First Build | Elden Ring Gameplay Analysis | Chapter 5

Sometimes, the difficulty that we suffer in our first playthrough of a Souls Game is due to the fact that we do not make a proper build. We can make mistakes leveling up our character and spread our stats too thin. As a result, we end up with characters that are not really good at anything. In order to increase the chance of success of your first playthrough, it is important to go into it with the right tools. In this guide, I go over my thought process and system to make a build in the Souls games. Even if it is my first playthrough.

  1. Excellent video mate and thank you.

I have a question about a particular build idea.

My idea is a hybrid character centered around duel wheeled and incantations. Obviously, dexterity would cover the duel wheeled portion but am unsure if it's mind or intelligence that covers incantations?

I was thinking of either the warrior or prisoner for this particular build. Any advice would be of great benefit!

  2. i dont agree with your definition of what a build is entirely. a lot of people dont seem to understand that making a build is about how well you can utilize your character's "limited" stat pool.

PSA to everyone who doesnt know what that means. yes you can level every stat to 99, but you are giving youself unlimited freedom to level and so it isnt a build.

if you do not set a level cap for yourself you are removing the challenge of making a build. as a rule of thumb for most souls players the highest level your build can be is SL120 by the final boss possibly sooner. you have to figure out how to best use those 120 stat points to make your build. if you say "ah shit my SL120 strength build could really use 40 more levels in FTH for some healing" you aint a fuckin strength build anymore you just overleveled.

you have to compromise some stats to have others and thats the challenge. if you have unlimited levels your choices dont matter anymore.

additionally if you level too far beyond other players you likely wont be able to randomly matchmake with players anymore. if most players agree not to pass 120 it keeps us in the same "Meta Level" matchmaking pool. this will ensure you still see summon signs on the floor without the use of passwords.

this isnt me telling you how to play the game. if you wanna level all your stats stupid high go nuts. the PvE doesnt care. i like to make multiple characters locked at different soul levels so i can coop and invade at different parts of the game. if you dont care about multiplayer then none of what i said matters. but if you're interested in PVP dont level past soul level 120. you cant undo it and if you change your mind you will have to make a new character to hit meta level again.

  3. Helpful video. And since I wanted to go str/fth too like in ds3 this was good contend I would've chooses wrong with the starting class. Numbers don't lie, so it's vagabond for me too. I really hope the is a sacred seal to buy or find early.

  4. FYI. What I'm seeing come up, as some of the break points for stats, it seems that 40 end might be a waste for a lot of heroes. 24 and 20 end seem to be decent sweet spots that do not require nearly as many points. I'm not crazy enough to suggest to go with a base endurance build, like in Bloodborne, but you may be able to shave off up to 20 points there. In the case of both of your caster builds, they could each gain 10 more points in their casting stat. This would put them at 60 points in their casting stat, which is the soft cap. This would also allow you to do some pretty crazy things, like make a quality build with a high mind stat or a hybrid dex caster with 40 dex and 50 or more in their casting stat

  5. They said it’s viable to do a jack of all traits build this time around. Someone did stat tests and after a certain level stats don’t get a rise in effectiveness. I.e. Rex stops giving casting speed at 70. So it’s safe to assume other attributes will have similar effects. So you may be able to master everything eventually

  6. Frowny Q for you. For a Magic build I'm debating between Astrologer and Prisoner. Some say Prisoner is better because of the wasted point the Astrologer has in Faith. Your opinion? Plus, have any Glintstone sorceries been announced for the Prisoner other than the flying blade?

  7. Greetings. Is it not a better option for a hybrid (if we now only talk about the damage stat distribution) to only meet the physical requirements of the chosen weapon (STR / DEX) and pump the rest to INT or FTH? I mean, theoretically if I want an Enchanted Knight type build (from Astro or Vagabond ) with the most primitive Long sword (10str/10dex req.) – I think it is much better if I put an INT scaling type Ash of war on it, putting everything else to INT, and don't make the STR and INT nearly equal (so I can reach 60 INT ~). Why should I do this? Because the INT type Ash of war (e.g. Glintstone Arc) greatly reducing the STR and DEX scaling, it would be not better than E class for those stats. I feel pumping more into STR sounds like wasting points, on the other hand with 60 INT my spells will be more powerful and my magic melee damage also will be more powerful, as it would be with 40 STR/ 30 INT. Of course, against magic resistant monsters this can be a handicap, it is possible. Please feel free to share your comments.

  8. Thank you thank you!! I am new to soul games I never been any good but I love them. This video was a huge help not only selecting my starting class but most importantly how to go about building my class to be the best I can during my first run.

  9. I just don't understand the hype … I mean, anyone can make a timing based fantasy combat game. Anyone can make a virtual world to explore. Anyone can put their difficulty on 'hard'. And judging by what I've seen and heard, the PVP is going to simply depend on whose connection is better as two players just roll-dodge and cast spells and run away. Can't count the number of dorks who "I gUnNa pLaY a DeX/inT build for mAi fUrSt pLaYtHrOuGh."

  10. This was a fantastic video!! Elden Ring will be my first foray into a souls game. I have played Lords of the Fallen a bit and Remnant, but neither is a Fromsoft game. This helped me so much on deciding how to start. I appreciate the effort and explanations. I probably will start with a Vagabond as well it seems that this class is set up for people like me that don't have as much experience with Souls.

  11. That was a great video that can be used for any souls game actually. I always tell beginners focus on vitality and endurance and strength faith is a great way to go on your first play through because of the healing. Even better in Elden Ring since your Equipment load is tied to your strength also.

  13. Can you explain how the different build types line up with different strategies? Especially the hybrid ones. How do they affect your type of playstyle? What’s the difference b/w STR/FTH and STR/INT and the other hybrids? How do they all play? (First time souls player here)

  14. Hello great video! I am going to be a new player so everything feels really intimidating to say the least πŸ˜… I was leaning more towards a dex/int build because im really into sorcery builds. But I read that you find int to be a bit boring when it comes to gameplay, and I understood why you said that compared to a build with FTH. I know it comes down to preference, and you said that FTH has a lot more cooler magic (dragon magic, blood magic)?? I’m a bit confused, can you please elaborate more on that. If I end up choosing dex/int or dex/faith, which character would be good for those two builds?? Thank you so much

  15. Another great video cheers!
Looks like for my Prisoner I should go INT/DEX build. Should I follow the Vgr and End to 20 and then start working on my Int and Dex? Anything else I should mix in there or any other tips? Thanks again its appreciated! I am great at turn based and real time with pause crpgs but not the best with faster paced rpgs, looking forward to the challenge πŸ™‚

  16. This helps greatly. If I go pure caster looks like Astrologer and Prisoner are equal?

If I go int/dex prisoner is best?

I am torn between pure int and int/dex. I am a fair player but not great. I will do a little PVP but mostly want to finish the game. Anyone have any advice?

  17. Thank you for this extensive explanation of the Builds.
This will be my first Souls Game and this video will help me a lot.
I'm rather a fan of magic so I'd like to have a mixed Build of Magic and Melee.
I'll watch that section again and again and will check other videos too to be absolutely sure which Character I choose.
You're a great help and I look forward to more of your videos.
Greetings and keep up the good work!

  18. What do you think about mind stat? Is 10 enough with vagabond to use miracles in sl 120 also?

  19. this is by far the best video I found on this topic, since I wanted to run STR and FTH anyway it was even more perfect.
Conclusion, doesn't get any better. I wonder what impact Arcane will have and how the Bandit turns out – but that's another build I want to play around.

  20. Wow…I don't think I've ever felt so validated. I'd already decided to start a Strength/Faith build using Vagabond, for a lot of the same reasons and some different ones. 13 Dex is the usual requirement for the Claymore, a great comfort greatsword. Only 16 points (the lowest) "wasted" in Arcane + Int, the only 2 useless stats.
