A large portion of the ideas and themes I express are based off of the literary work done by Yuval Noah Harari. Things like the critiques of capitalism, or the ideas of happiness and how we perceive it.

In particular, I would highly recommend reading “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind”.

  1. Longest video I ever made. Please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing! Any corrections will be posted here and in the description so check there before commenting!

    Corrections:

    1. "Split personality" is a dated term I used for dog/god. Dissociative Identity Disorder is more accurate and the multiple personalities are called alters.

    2. I used the term "cabal", which I have been informed is used in anti-Semitic rhetoric and will be refraining from using it in the future. I believe this was used in discussing the American government, corporations, and military.

    3. Not a correction: The courier is NOT an amnesiac. Please stop bringing this up to me. JESawyer is on record saying the courier does not have amnesia.

    4. The Thorn egg quest also rewards you with a unique shotgun

    5. Gamergate being mentioned: I brought it up to frame how the progressiveness of New Vegas is often misinterpreted by people (usually right-wing). I used GamerGate because it was an example I saw first-hand, where people were praising Arcade specifically for weird reasons and I saw this during the GG era. The section isn't about GG, it's about New Vegas' progressiveness and strong left-leaning ideology that individuals misconstrue as right-wing.

It's not a discussion on tokenization, it's about people angry when a character deviates from the viewers perceived norm. If Arcade or Veronica were more open and loud about their sexuality this would rub the people I described the wrong way. Some commenters think this means I'm talking about them when I say this. Do you dislike characters simply because they are loud about their sexuality? No? Then I'm not talking about you. Yes? You should probably go outside.

Check the first 20 minutes of this video for an explanation on GG: https://youtu.be/lLYWHpgIoIw

    6. Daniel was originally meant to be Asian, but a glitch caused his character to be Caucasian instead.

    7. Prison labor is slave labor.

    8. I get it. You didn't love or hate it. You only liked it.

    9. I will not debate in my comments. if you disagree with me that's fine, but I'm not taking part in the "marketplace of ideas" in my free time.

    10. gamergate nerds stay gone

    11. The legion doesn't attack you because they identify you as a courier. Couriers are often used by the legion as disguises for their spies.

    12. I missed one ending with Chief Hanlon if you kill Caesar.

  2. Two remarks :

(*) I managed to get a 100% achievement rate for this game in roughly 200 hours by playing in hardcore mode during my first playthrough & postponing any choices where you have to pick a side as long as possible. That way you only need to make important choices as you near endgame, allowing you to get every ending and do some of the more difficult challenges with a minimum of effort. It may reduce immersion a bit having to keep this into account, but staying at worst neutral towards any faction for most of the game also means you encounter hostiles much less often and you avoid missing out on fun quests during a (mostly) singular playthrough.

(*) I consider "The Legion" the lesser evil because it has a strict honor code and it is open & direct about what it stands for. I've always found rigid & open totalitarianism more tolerable than covert or arbitrary forms of totalitarianism, because in the long run the latter cause far more harm. From this perspective, "The Legion" is the lesser evil compared with the 3 alternatives, as both "Mr House" & "NCR" are significantly more covert & arbitrary in their totalitarianism. And while the anarchist 4th option may not be totalitarian, I'd argue this may even be the worst option.

  3. When I first played this game, I’ll never forget the little high I got when I was told I could take the Mojave for myself. Like you’re telling me I can become the overlord of the Mojave by playing both sides of the war for my own benefit. Sign me the FUCK UP!

  4. used the Viva New Vegas guide to get my game up and running on my modern Windows 10 machine and it was damn near flawless. During my 70 hour playthrough I had 1(!) singular crash that forced me to reload a save. Modders have gotten the game to a really good place.

  5. Considering the Big Empty an meeting your brain, your character has some kind of issue with split personality. So the narrative with upllyses and an old you before you got shot in the head makes sense cuz that's when the courier was afflicted with us the second personality.

  6. One of my favourite moments was finding the axes up north of goodsprings with all those Cazadores. That shit slapped the fuck outta EVERY enemy and made me divert from stealth sniper to balls to the wall hercules running at my foes.

  7. Honesty, I can't believe I watched most of the video. With the exception being Dead Money and Honest Hearts (as I didn't finished said DLC during my previous watch and didn't want to spoil it. Finished them a whlle ago so time to finish it now.)

Its nice to see others people's take on the game, especially when you have played the game.

  8. You mention that VATS was introduced in Fallout 3, but it was only the name. The system has been in the series since the original though the Fast Shot trait would disable it. This has been a mandatory nitpick on a year old video.

  9. One of the best games of all time. Aged like fine wine. You can play it so many ways and the story was written to be timeless. Fallout New Vegas is one of the best games ever made. I’ll never forgot when I first got it in 2010 as a kid on Xbox 360. Man time flies… I’m 23 now and just recently installed it on my Xbox series x and it runs insanely smoothly and plays amazingly. I love the writing and characters in fallout and how you can kill everyone in this game compared to other fallouts.

  10. Hey SuperRad, just one thing I wanted to point out. When discussing faction rep you mention that the legion has no reason to attack the player. This is not true since you are a courier and the legion does not attack couriers. Once you get NCR rep tho, that should go out the window like you mentioned.

  11. This is by far the best fallout new Vegas breakdown I've seen! This game is unbelievably interesting and thought provoking. You cant help but reflect after each adventure thinking if youve made the right decision. I hope one day there will be another game as good as new vegas.. but The truth is it was rigged from the start
