The BEST MotoGP race of the season! | 2022 Australian MotoGP Phillip Island

We’ve had to wait 3 years for Phillip Island and it was well worth the wait. Alex Rins wins an incredible Australian Grand Prix from Marc Marquez in 2nd & Pecco Bagnaia in 3rd place.

There has also been a massive swing in the title fight as Pecco Bagnaia leads the championship now by 14 points after Fabio Quartararo crashed out.

Where do you start with that one? It was more like a moto3 race with the amount of overtakes. There was early drama with Fabio Quartararo as he had a moment on the entry of the newly named Miller Corner and had to go straight on into the grass and dropped all the way back to 22nd and his race was compounded by the crash at Turn 3 as he was in 15th place. A disaster for the World Championship, he will need something truly special to catch Pecco Bagnaia now.

The pace of the race was much slower than expected as the riders had to manage their tyres and that was the key for the overtakes we got, Marc Marquez was battling with Bagnaia & Martin in the first phase of the race and then Alex Rins came through from 10th to get involved and also Marco Bezzecchi joined the fight for the lead.

But it was a bad day for Jack Miller as his title hopes ended as he got wiped out by Alex Marquez at his own corner, thankfully both riders are ok But not the ending Jack would have wanted for his home race.

The race developed into a 5 way fight and everything changed for Pecco Bagnaia when he seen on his board that Quartararo was out. He didn’t want to risk making a mistake and losing the championship that he now has, however two riders that aren’t in the title fight, Alex Rins and Marc Marquez duelled it out for Victory and Marquez just couldn’t find a way past Rins on the last lap.

It is special for Rins and Suzuki to take this win as we know they are leaving the sport at the end of the season, so to see them win possibly their last race in MotoGP was just brilliant.

Phillip Island is an old school track and it has always been my favourite race on the calendar and it showed today why it is the best circuit in the world, it was a race that you couldn’t take Your eyes off from start to finish.

We move on to Malaysia where the title could be settled, but in 2022 anything can happen as we have seen it change so much this season.

We will have more reaction on the podcast next week, but if you enjoyed the video make sure to subscribe to Crash MotoGP for more content and we will see you next time!

  1. MM93 nearly won with his 100th podium; incredible effort using a soft rear tyre; his team wanted him to use a harder tyre but Marc is terrified of losing the rear and high-siding, so he insisted on the soft option.

  2. That Rins/Marquez battle was awesome. Rins, on days like this is untouchable and good to see Marquez is most definitely back to his battling best, the rest of the paddock have now been put on notice for next season, he wants that 9th title.

  3. The best race of the year…. Amazing battle for the 1st place… even some Ducatis threating Pecco’s position.

Deserved 1st position of the championship for Pecco & Ducati

  4. Marc was really superb. I really love the race. I didn't like the way Benzecci was defending Pecco from Marc and rins. I hate that. But at the end, my man Marc left 6 ducatis behind him 😊

  5. It was awesome watching Marc get back to doing what he does. You could see he was sitting back holding on to his rear tire tmfoe the last couple of laps. Always making sure he was 2nd to give himself the best chance at winning. Also the change up in championship leaders and how that took quite a drastic change. Amazing race weekend for sure

  6. From the moment Fabio announced that he’s taking a “break” from social media I realized how mentally weak he is… similar with Pecco, they worry too much about what the fans and media say and let it get to their heads lol. This was never Marc’s, Vale’s, Casey’s, Jorge’s problem. And truth be told Pecco and Fabio are lucky Marc hasn’t been riding like this all season…

  7. If you ever get the chance to ride the Phillip Island circuit, do it. In fact go out of your way to do it. Probably the best time I've ever had on a motorbike. I even took my GF on the back for two laps with us getting clocked at 230 on the radar gun on the main straight. I asked how she liked it, she replied, I don't know, I had my eyes closed the entire time.
