The 130-millimeter Gun Built to Rule the Pacific

China has unveiled its latest naval achievement—the Type 055 Renhai-class cruiser. This is no ordinary vessel; it’s a 13,000-ton guided-missile destroyer armed to the teeth with 112 vertical launching system missile tubes. Its floating arsenal can simultaneously launch surface-to-air, anti-ship, and land-attack cruise missiles.

This cruiser doesn’t just challenge the status quo; it directly rivals the U.S. Navy’s Ticonderoga-class cruiser, a mainstay of American naval dominance. With a lethal 130-millimeter main gun and a 30-millimeter CIWS system designed to swat low-flying aircraft and missiles out of the sky, the Renhai is more than just a ship; it’s a statement of intent.

As if its mere existence wasn’t enough to send ripples across the Pacific, the Renhai-class cruiser is part of China’s broader strategy to assert its naval dominance locally and globally. With eight of these cruisers already commissioned and plans for at least 25 more by the end of the decade, Taiwan faces the growing shadow of China’s military ambitions. The message is clear: China is gearing up for something big.

  1. Yet we still have politicians in Washington still bending over for china and letting china do whatever they want and it’s not just politicians in America it’s also been in Canada and other western countries that has sold out it’s citizens for greed. We have seen overwhelming corruption coming from liberal politicians selling out to china for profit so is when is it going to be enough. Our countries has become weaker under their leadership because of woke politics and division and they have left our borders wide open to whomever wants to come across making our country unsafe. We have watched this administration protect everyone but America. If they know all this why haven’t they been on the ball to have us ready if something does happen. Why are they letting them cross our country with spy balloons and letting more spies in at our southern borders. Maybe because this administration could careless about its citizens.

  2. American ships have twice the firepower of Chinese ships. The US has a real blue water Navy that can fight on China's door step. China has no real ocean navy and has little battle experience. They would be destroyed.

  3. Not really worried about one 120mm deck gun. However, the ship appears formable with is complement of various missiles. Actual combat will tell but the last war China won was with themselves. Despite equipment China doesn't have the collective experience operating these systems and their personnel are untested, especially with aircraft carriers. My biggest fear is that our current military seems more concerned with diversity than winning a war.

  4. I'm thinking that the Chinese are still stealing Western secrets. I would suggest NOT employing ANY Chinese or Chinese sympathizers in sensitive areas. Of course, the Left will complain, 'Racizms' but the results are in for NOT doing so.

  5. China is gearing up to have its ass handed to it. It is one thing to have big fancy new ships, It is an entirely different thing to have any experience or doctrine to be able to fight those ships effectively.

  6. So much American hubris! Boeing with 100 years has found a new weapon in dropping aircraft door or MCAS dive bombers. USS Connecticutt was undone by the Chinese Great wall of undersea mount. Meanwhile US is busy with thr Houthis in the Red Sea but where are the US allies so often boasted.

  7. +130MM is a semi-automatic five inch gun. Looking at the ejected shell casings, however its obvious it does NOT have the gunpowder propellant the standard US Navy five inch gun can have. Thus it has a shorter range.

  8. Do you think their economy and demographics can hold out till 2027? No way. Their population is already declining by the millions and their economy is faltering. It looks like they may never have a good time to invade. I guess it depends on how much they can buildup before they run out of money and fighting age men.

  9. BlahBlahBlah. So what if they copied the best ideas they could steal and cranked ships out at a great rate. When the shooting starts they will be captained by men who got their positions by briberty and loyalty to the CCP. History suggests that the performance of the CCP's navy in those first clashes is going to be terrible.

  10. So the missiles dont soft launch… where is the exhaust coming out of? It's such a terrible design… If you wanted a hot launch you would use a tube on the side of the ship…..so the exhaust can escape…. most of those missiles look unguided… how do you reload the tubes?
