Due to the Mako, Cloud has different methods of cope mechanisms.
When Zack died he forgot, just to forget the pain and created this First Class Soldier persona.
When Aerith died, (this also happens because Aerith souls helped in some way so he doesn’t literally break completely as he was almost completely lost due to Sephiroth control) he doesn’t understand she is dead and that “her world has ended” but her soul is vaguing over Gaia (This is why Nanaki can sense her too, people with strong connection with Gaia c should be able to sense her in some way)
Her soul is unable to pass onto the lifestream due to Sephiroth manipulating “the worlds” (The worlds in here mean the people in Gaia not multiverse shit) and because she still needs to help to stop Meteor by casting Holy with the White Materia.
I blame all these misunderstandings on Square Enix 100% due to the wording presented in the games and lore being confusing as fuck!
Hey everyone! I hope you enjoy my reaction to the ending, I promise that I am still happy with the game – just severely confused.
ALSO I BOUGHT A FF7 REBIRTH CONCERT TICKET FOR ROME! LFG!!!

Hi sorry where you read tifa was canon?
i did all the Sidequest and didnt understand😂
Cloud x Aerith always be a canon couple since 1997, sorry about that 😭. Thank you for share your gameplay
Congratulations on completing the game. You've now qualified to be as monumentally confused as the rest of us! lol
Loads of theories about, but in reality, everyone's guessing.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing FF for years but the I didn’t find the last couple chapters hard to follow. I know better than to judge anything as it’s being shown and review everything after the credits roll (if any questions remain). I’m certainly not claiming to understand/ know all of it mind you. I don’t think anything was too convoluted given what the devs were trying to do. I personally think it came together nicely. My only “gripe” would be Aerith’s death. I knew it would be impossible to recreate the feeling of the first game but the way it was done left many wondering how they should feel because they weren’t certain of her fate. By the time it’s confirmed she’s “gone” the player has moved past that moment.
Aerith died. The ending was a sendoff to her. In that timeline, Aerith is gone and she said goodbye to them and Cloud moves on. BUT, he also knows Aerith is still alive in the other timeline, alongside Zack. Sephiroth plans to merge all timelines but was thwarted by the group. He will continue to try and do so in the final part and (this part is my theory) will most likely come close which means Aerith and Zack will once again be able to cross timelines and join Cloud and the gang in beating Sephiroth. once they do, the end will probably be the timelines closing permanently and them saying Goodbye once again to Aerith and Zack as they go back and live on their own timelines.
I think the easiest way to understand the FFVII: Remake-series is to watch the videos "The paradox of an Infinite Universe" and "Did the Future Already Happen, The Paradox of Time" by Kurtzgesagt. Because ultimately FFVII's story is about the life and death of a planet. So understanding quantum theory and science philosophy about the universe helps a lot with understanding the story. The overarching story is one of an intergalactic scale (where Jenova is "the source of everything") However, the story is not told from an intergalactic scale, but rather a confusing and small human perspective…
My initial thoughts is that in Remake we lived in a block universe, where the future was already determined by destiny. And once those shackles of were broken in remake it paved the path for a multiverse universe (where the past has happened, the future is not determined, but the present is ever-evolving through an infite amount of concurrent realities). I don't remember the exact quote or who said it in the game, but I got the impression that all of these worlds come together as on in the "lifestream".
Keeping all this in mind, and re-watching the important story points will likely help you to grasp the ending… I can't say I have the answer to absolutely everything, but I don't think we need to know everything. At the end, when Aerith speaks she is always surrounded by green lifestream particles… So it's more or less that Cloud has the ability to connect to her, through the lifestream and the planet. (similarly to how Aerith could connect with Elmyra's husband as a child) or two worlds have merged, and there is now one where Aerith lived, and Cloud is stuck between these two worlds.
5:57:27 Both Cloud and Aerith agreed that it was their spot, what was there to be confused about.
Imagine if they just remade FF7 and didn’t include this nonsense in the game.
Back in OG FF7 Zack didn’t really have a backstory so that is technically Cloud and Aerith spot. Zack didn’t get expanded on until a whole decade later. Aerith was always created to be Cloud love interest from the very beginning of development. Tifa got created when they decided they wanted Aerith to die after passing on Barrett. At first Cloud, Aerith, and Barrett were going to be the only playable characters. Lol They gave Cloud two love interest don’t let twitter manipulate you.
I can't wait to see those videos in Icicle Inn… definitely gonna make me cry and miss Ifalna and Aerith even more
my interpretation is that aerith is really dead. the staticky cuts after sephiroth drops illustrate cloud's mind fracturing in realtime, his means of coping with trauma is denial. the aerith we see in the ending is cloud's imagination
The reason Sephiroth gave Cloud the black materia back after Barret made it roll out of his hand is because Sephiroth never really had it. That's not Sephiroth, he's still frozen in the Northern Crater. He needs Cloud to actually bring it to him like in the original. None of this is the 'real' Sephiroth. I don't know how he can do things like kill Aerith, maybe the closer you are to him the more force he can exert over you or something. He's basically an illusion at this point in the story.
It's the same for the ending. Aerith obviously dies but Sephiroth is messing with Cloud's mind. He made you think you saved her. Cloud is tripping balls and thinks she's alive. You see it when she's dead but talking to him, the 'Sephiroth static' kicks in and Tifa see's her in his lap but her eyes are closed, from Cloud's perspective her eyes are still open. It's all in his head. Wouldn't suprise me if Sephiroth is pretending to be her spirit to manuipulate him even more. In part 3 she'll be telling him to bring the black materia to Sephiroth.
That Aerith flashback/trial is probably the saddest thing I've seen in a game.
Cloud did save Aerith however, he caused a new timeline to be created. Just like when Zack decided to save Cloud he created two more timelines (1) he went to find the cure for Cloud (2) he went to save Biggs (3) Zack goes back to the church and ponders on who he should save (this is the Zack we end up fighting with because Seph sent him into the void when he slashed the ground).
Cloud saves Aerith however, he now sees two timelines since he was travelling between multiple timelines with Aerith in her dream state. The party (Tifa, Barret, Sith, Red, Vincent, Yuffie and Cid) never went with Cloud to "defy destiny" once more so they only see the timeline that show Aerith dead. Cloud is indeed breaking down mentally however, he is not imagining Aerith he legitimately sees her and the now cracked sky which indicates their main world is ending too.
Now im missing some details but that's the gist of it. The only problem here is Seph speaks like the riddler and never really explains anything in layman terms.
We also got to remember, we were constantly switching parties in the last fight because we were fighting in different timelines because Seph is switching between multiple timelines trying to fight Cloud + Aerith, Cloud + Zack, and Cloud + our main party.
LOVED YOUR PLAYTHROUGH
So during Zack's section of the final boss, standing in the circle gradually summons that pink sphere of light. By attacking it, you launch it at Sephiroth Reborn and instantly stagger him.
You see Advent Children? She is only a Ghost in the Livestream. Cloud see her also in Advent children.
Honestly the Aerith flashback scene made me tear up too because it's relatable in the sense that we wanna make are parents happy & proud as well as other things too so yeah… 😢😔💔 Losing someone that close is in itself a loss of innocence.
Bruh, if you had all the answers then the 3rd game would be pointless
What i think happen and i could be wrong , but am not really buying the multi world thing just yet , its more like a memory thing , in the mind of Cloud he think shes alive , or that he save her , but in reality he failed cause Jenova( yes Jenova cause this isnt Sephiroth ) controlled Cloud to believe he saves Aerith . I think Cloud just can see Aerith cause hes really fuck in the head still , and i believe they will show the real what happen in the 3rd game when he stab her for real . I was very dissapointed with that ending tho , its not bad its just super confusing for no fucking reason , they need to stop fucking doing that . People will be confused once again more then ever … But atleast she still dies , as much I love Aerith she needs to die to make the game this game as close as possilbe form OG storyline wise. This is one moment i really didnt want them to fuck it up and change it , they did change it but atleast she still dies regardless .. anyway an other freaking 4 years of waiting
Can we all agree that the trials in the temple of the ancients were plain evil
First red being tortured by hojo
Then barret with Myrna
And then aerith as little girl asking for help ff12 style 😢 and her starting to cry saying she failed …….naw that hurt way too much
I love how y’all always wanna compare to Kingdom Herts when yall wanna complain. Let it go bro
I think the most reasonable outcome to the ending is that Cloud's already fucked up brain is now torn between the two timelines
In the JENOVA fight everyone had their Limit ready to go because they were so pissed and wanting revenge- everyone but Cloud, as he was perceiving her as alive (He went into the capital alone so it only effected him)
It's why he's so chill and at the funeral scene you see him and Aerith turn to face Tifa, then from Tifa's POV it's just Cloud alone. We skipped the funeral because it doesn't line up with Cloud's 'memory' of the event as he sees her as still alive. When homie gets dropped in the baja blast next game we'll probably get the proper funeral
6:36:24 is the coolest Cloud has ever been. And cloud is cool 80% of the time
Sephiroth let cloud “save Aerith” and create a world which he only sees where Aerith lives just to mess with him even more when the time to destroy his mind at the northern crater will come.
That’s all.
