One thing you can do, as an option, is use an all-in-one portable solar power station or a 12v LiFeP04 battery, AC inverter, and a 20 amp plug in charger for the battery, to power an electric blanket covered with other blankets to hold in the heat. A large 300ah LiFeP04 battery can power an electric blanket for a very long time. They also sell electric heated vests. If you plan to use a setup like this charged by solar panels and an MPPT solar charge controller in very cold weather you will need a self-heating battery to avoid damaging it while charging it. These batteries are usually considerably more expensive though. But if you can`t use wood heat or can`t get gas and may run out, consider these emergency options.
I use these in my camper in Louisiana to keep everything going during our frequent power outages and ran my tiny window air conditioner from a 300ah LiFeP04 battery and inverter during five extreme heat emergency power outages this summer and had to use an electric blanket last December when it was zero degrees and 50 mph gusts knocked out the power.
I just bought a 200w Lasko mini electric heater and a no-name 500w to use this winter because they blow warm air right on you. I can also use them to heat up my bathroom before I bathe. I plan to get a My Heater gas heater too soon or something similar. But since I have no transportation I may not always be able to get gas…and what if the gas heater fails during an emergency freeze? If that happens I can run my electric blanket for over 70 hours from the batteries I have and use my emergency batteries to make hot drinks and soups/ramen. Research LiFeP04 batteries and solar power stations. Having emergency power may save your life and having more than just one way to warm up if possible is extremely important.
