This one includes a little controversy put out there by some idiot who claims I’m fake. Pour yourself a glass and check it out.

Can confirm: staying awake days on end can result in psychosis. Despite the name, it is NOT fun at all. It's terrifying, and out in the bush, could easily get you killed.
I like what you said about laying on the ground and looking at the trees. I do that in my yard when the weather is nice. It’s like zoning out in front of a fire – you just go somewhere else.
That is my favorite Survivor Man episode because it's the most relaxing interesting and it has rain in it so that's a win-win for me
There is a structure by that beach now otherwise Island looks undeveloped.
Man Joe Rogan needs to send an invitation to his podcast
I’ve seen at least one abandoned lighter almost everywhere I went.
i can confirm the garbage theme, as a flintknapper i find more glass in a german forest than goof stones for tool making
you seem a lot more relaxed in this commentary. whatever you've been doing recently is working lol
Screw you "Piss Ant". Les Stroud is the real Survivorman. He does not fake shit! Another peek into what was going through your mind while doing one of my favorite episodes. It's cool to here from you years later filling in the blanks of what went on back then! PS to the "Piss Ant" lol, try the stuff bear grylls does in the wilderness and you'd most likely die. Thanks Les for another DC. keep them coming, and eventually Beyond Survival.
Fact. Those Whelks Survivorman found are high in protein and iron! Great score.
It’s a small way to help but I’ve done it a few times where I bought one of those bracelets that are supposedly made from 100% plastic recovered from the oceans and beaches . Can’t remember the company name rn.
Did you keep the cutless ? It looks bad ass , I would have
How half these survivalists/campers have multimillion subscribers. And LES FREAKIN STROUD is 200,000 shy of a million, is insanely, sadly astonishing…
I can see how people would have things to say about the lighter. But I saw this episode many times before I ever heard that it was a big deal to those people. It never crossed my mind that it was a plant . I mean I’ve found countless lighters , some worked . We all have .
Absolutely
It's nice to hear a little positive word about Matt Graham. He's such a gentle, humble soul. Dual Survival can be pretty questionable, but Matt did present some honest teachable moments. Still, Les was the true survival master, that cannot be denied. I'd love to see more Survivorman, someday! 🙂
Not to put a damper on your "creepy story", but what you've described is textbook sleep paralysis. It's a period of consciousness that you have when you shouldn't, where your brain is essentially turning down the nerves and stuff in your body to prepare you for sleep so you're not thrashing around (as much anyway). The reason it "feels" hard to breathe is that you're not really feeling yourself breathe due to those nerves being tuned down, and your breathing going on autopilot (even more than usual).
Normally, you wouldn't be conscious during this phase, and thus wouldn't notice it, but there are times where you kind of skate the line when trying to sleep and end up there. You can also reach this state if you wake up in the middle of the night and your brain doesn't flip the switch. Depending on how deep your body is into it, you might not be able to move your extremities, or you can. Generally this goes away after a minute or so, or quicker if you try to focus on breathing.
During these times of sleep paralysis, your brain is also right on that transition of consciousness/unconsciousness, so you might even hear sounds and see things that you otherwise wouldn't. It's not ghosts, demons, or ethereal beings, just the brain doing brain things. To people who aren't familiar with it, it can be pretty traumatizing. I've had people be super stubborn that they were experiencing a paranormal phenomenon until I laid it out for them.
You can actually reach this state manually when trying to sleep, by laying down and trying to keep still, while also trying to stay conscious. Over time you'll start to feel your extremities "fall asleep" and have the feeling slowly creep up your torso. As your body reaches the full state, you'll start to hear/see things (hypnagogic imagery), and it's easier to induce lucid dreaming on purpose.
source: I have a ton of trouble falling aleep, so this happens all the time for me. I've just made a "game" out of it and try to induce sleep paralysis for lucid dreaming. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Gotta have nerves of steel to resist moving and resetting it.
I totally feel ya, the older I get the less I wanna kill anything . I live in central Illinois and just like everywhere else we have a ton of deer. I have 100 acres and don’t allow hunting on it . I think all the deer for miles have figured out to come and have refuge during deer season . Hunters most likely hate me for it but I really don’t care
why is the thumbnail for this from another episode? Its from the Cook Islands episode.
I'm watching this at 7am. It's 5 o'clock somewhere
Been watching survivorman for 20 years. Love the content Les. Definitely need to do more bigfoot content as well!
Still watching Survivor Man episodes over and over after all these years. I have never once questioned the legitimacy of Less. I really wish he would give us one last episode even if it’s just a 3 day survival show and make it a 2-3 hour episode.
I found you surviving here in YouTube. I didn’t even know you had a channel. I guess I should have known everyone including me is on YouTube these days. Glad to have finally found you I love the content
This was one of my favorite shows, I love these directors commentary, thank you for all the good memories
The lighter was definitely washed up on the shore. But Les got ahold of his crew with his Dixie cup phone, and they came back and brought him lighter fluid and he refilled it off camera! 🤣🤣🤣
Jokes aside, even at 22:34 you can see there's plastic bottles and trash all over the place – even appears to be a Monster Energy drink can there at the bottom of the frame, lol. CLEARLY LES PUT THAT THERE SO MONSTER ENERGY WOULD SPONSOR HIM! lolol.
Sleep paralysis. I've only experienced it once, during a high-stress moving week, I drove about 5000km back and forth across the prairies during a week of heavy snowstorms and closed highways, and a couple cancelled flights to start the trip. I woke up in my hotel room in Saskatoon mid trip and tried to roll over to check the time on my phone, and just… couldn't. Felt like I was being crushed against the bed by something or someone in the room. It lasted maybe 30 seconds of sheer panic before I was able to push through it.
It's common enough that people are out there making memes about sleep paralysis demons, which is how I figured out what was going on a few days later. I'd just assumed it was a dream. But apparently it happens most often during periods of stress and sleep deprivation, which were two things I had going for me at the time.
Finding hooks and fishing line is totally believable. I fly fish, and the amount of hooks and line I lose, is plentiful. You don't just dive in the water and retrieve your line and flies/hooks, so someone else finding them is 100% believable (especially when they can easily float down a river to main bodies of water).
come on everyone subscribe to get les to million… he wants to do more survivorman but needs funds to make it happen
Les, we trust and respect you a lot. We don’t care about haters and punks who are just jealous of your success.
man, you really let that troll get to you huh? come off so whiny for someone in your position, who cares what people say?
I love these commentary’s, been watching survivorman since I was a kid and it was my favorite show growing up. I have also run across this guy on YouTube discrediting you, but we all know you are legit. I hope one day maybe to meet you in person
You just described sleep paralysis, it's like you said not lucid dreaming but lucid pre dreaming, your body is constricting your breathing and lowering your temperature and you become aware of that. You should look up a painting called "The night Mare" by Henry Fuseli, it shows exactly what you described here
Grenada/Grenada. Potato/Potato. Caribbean/Caribbean.
Hey Les, what are your current thoughts on off-gridders? Seems like the idea at least is gaining popularity as an alternative to the 9-5 go to work and pay your bills lifestyle. Save up some money, buy some land, and live out your life. sounds nice on paper.
So cool that you made your own balut!
Ive found perfectly intact lures and flies for fishing deep in the bush before, even useable tools like needle nose pliers, some hatchets, hammers, knives, a decent oil stone for sharpening. Lots of garbage or abandoned stuff everywhere like you said
I remember going on a camping trip when i was younger as a family. we had to rent a cabin for my grandfather who was disabled and couldn't handle the outdoors as well. to not leave him outat the end of the day we had food at the cabin. (we did the activities together with him that we could don't worry lol) I remember sitting in the cabin around the tv watching survivorman on cable. I believe the episode at the time was the African Plains. hard to remember exactly. I remember that trip being what sparked my interest into nature and survival. Thanks for the amazing memories and creating a hobby for me Les.
Hello Mr. Stroud, Are you still working on that Survivor Man video game? Theres actually a Bear Grylls "survival" video game and it's terrible and incredibly unrealistic. Theres a part were you randomly sky dive for some reason haha. We need a Survivor Man game!!!!
Please make more episodes i will gladly pay to watch them!
Love you and the knowledge that i learn from watching you.Cheers from the states ❤
Let's get Les to a million 🎉🎉🎉
I believe they are called Sleep Terrors, the stuff you're refering to around the 30 minute mark. As far as I know, it is somewhere between waking and sleeping state, where the brain keeps you immovable to prevent you from moving too much around in your sleep, but you're wide awake, I have never experienced this myself but I can imagine it is quite a terrifying experience, I am not denying anything supernatural exisint, but this is something I heard/read but I cannot for the life of me remember when and where.
Think it would be killer to see you do a collaboration with Outdoor Boys.
Great episode Les. This show is literally legendary
