» ABOUT THE GAME
Sumerians is a city building game set in ancient Mesopotamia. You have to fulfill your citizens needs to attract new citizens and grow by expanding your irrigation system, building walls, palaces, temples and ziggurats. Research new technologies, manage your production, hire workers, and trade. I’ll be showcasing the game and teaching how to play as I stream.

  1. Watched but not played this game yet, but have observed some things…

    This is a transportation infrastructure heavy game as a transporter( person x1, donkey x4, or oxen x10 load) going from center to outer range edge can take 2 months there and another 2 months back. Solutions to manage this could be many transport or cart buildings with small staff and shortened range, prioritized transports dedicated to each 5 priorities maxed ranged, and various blends of these ideas. I agree with the tutorial suggestion of dedicating a transport to the farmers as hauling bricks to a wall, starting after the last collection month (6) can tie up the worker up for more than half a year delaying them from assisting on collecting the harvest.

    The farming aspects of the game have interesting requirements, for example any contiguous field will never have farmers start sowing seeds until all tiles are clear and collected.. This means that even if there are free farmers( who have reaped and bailed all the fields in range) available to seed, they won't start seeding any fields unless all bails have been removed. So if the transporters return to drop of their loads prior to finishing a field it will take a month or more (depending on distance from the farmhouse) for them to return and finish clearing the field. I think an easy solution to this is making all fields no larger than( or even multiples of) the max capacity of the transporters used to clear the fields. This would be fields zoned in blocks of 1×10 or 2×5 for oxen, 1×4 or 2×2 for donkeys, or 2×10 or 4×5 for mixed fields. I've not yet seen anybody attempt this method of min/maxing this game as yet but I do believe it will work well. A good solution will have all fields completely growing 2 years in a row, as an under planted field 1 year can have a fully planted field the next but return as under planted because the harvest can't be picked up in time to allow the farmers to seed, even if other construction takes place.

    A last note: the administrative center will need to be within the walls and you only get to have 1 complex. That complex can be much more than the 2 wings you made thus far. I would keep researching anything that will add to the number of state workers and build additional wings to boost the speed of that research, then after 2000 population wipe out the old building complex and make another upgraded version within a walled enclosure.
