  2. Great project and video. 1 weird thing I've never seen on a video: when watching at 2x speed, from 22:00 to 22:40, your voice suddenly turned really grainy and high-pitched, then goes back to normal. It doesn't happen at all in normal speed. No idea how that happens, but thought it was weird enough to share lol

  3. Hope you do really well learning checkering. My dad used to make beautiful walnut gunstocks and forearm pieces with that very detailed, beautiful checkering. I was always amazed at how delicate and detailed they turned out. I'm very proud to say my dad was somewhat of an artist when it came to building gunstocks and forearm pieces from scratch.

  5. Nick now a understand why some your projects take months. So what resin wasn't always used to create river tables and for cam (@blacktailstudio) and every other YouTube creator didn't always make these!🤯🤯🤯. Great video they look amazing am just moving into proper shop in next few weeks so hopefully I may be able get looking at doing some nice projects. Can I ask your opinion need look into next purchase I have a planner that am having restore (didn't cost me anything) have table saw is the next purchase bandsaw or jointer??in your opinion 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

  6. I’ve done a lot of steam bending in my time; also bent laminations. You’re absolutely right about the preference for air dried timber; I was told that kiln drying changes the molecular structure somewhat – in any case, it’s my experience that you can get tighter curves on air dried than kiln dried. Contrary to a suggestion I once had from a timber seller, you cannot revert kiln dried to air dried by leaving it outside; I’ve tried it several times and it doesn’t work.

The other factors about steam bending are:

    – open grain timber works better than dense timber
    – grain is important. No knots and, preferable, no grain running out of the piece
    – timber can be made to expand (outer edge) or contract (inner edge) but using devices to limit the expansion will increase the chances of no cracking (bad explanation but videos from Dave, the coachbuilder from Joliet, shows and explains it fully)
    – you get more spring back from steaming than lamination. So, I over bend steamed wood but I don’t think it’s a science as to how much; more of an art and luck?

  7. Your talent and vision is remarkable! The things you make are truly one of a kind. Somehow the videos keep getting better. I can't believe I've never heard "sad duck queef" used in any capacity let alone an awesome woodworking video. I bet you can't pull that off again in a future video.

  8. I love the angles and flow of the design. You pulled that off really well. I wish the flow of the bottom translated to the lamp top. I don't love the big straight arm on the top as much. It feels like it detracts from the flow of the work. Perhaps a shade will help though, you might be right there.
