Damn never thought id see the day where i had to put down the book but, i refuse to play the same shit ive been playing for another 2.5 years im good. Time to paint someone like one of those french girls
I agree on Viper 100%. lots of flashy animations. but it all looks the same. What sets it apart from other jobs? They had a chance to lean in to Trance from ff9 or some sort of serpent theme. As for Summoner, I would have loved a different big summon, other than another Bahamut; something new and ffxiv all its own. That wing blade effect is cool at least, but could have been put on something new. I actually am looking forward to Pictomancer. Would have liked to see more motifs than what was shown.
12:15 inc RAGE
Viper should have been called blade dancer and its weapon named a twin blade
Still wanted a DRG Midgar-install a la Enshroud and PLD Passage of Arms into a 'parry' Confiteor.
Hearing Sly's outburst about DRG as a DRG main 😂 You said my thoughts pretty much
Am i really the only one who actually like Machinist flamethrower?
Is Sly high or just indifferent to 90% of everything? Either way, why have him on, if he's barely coherent and even when he is lucid. He's not contributing much.
Happy was on fire though.
33:54 my 5 cents with that discussion is the same perspective as Happy's. It felt like a concept/brainstormed idea they didnt build up to the realized fantasy of it all. There isn't even a point of reference to compare or even something about it that really stands out. Like Happy said "Its just a class that has 2 swords…". They could have given it a more literal name (Twin Blade) and i'd feel more neutral about the job tbh
I personally think the name viper being metaphorical is kinda interesting. Reaper as a job takes its name very literally. Vipers being a job that doesn’t use snake magic, but instead just emulate snakes with dual blades and light mobile armor makes sense.
I think what’s really missing is the context of the job quest and the lore around the job. Because that additional context might help inform on the intent of the job.
I do kinda agree the job does feel like it’s sorta missing something. It feels a bit milquetoast when compared to the other melees and Picto. However I do also imagine the art and effect pass on animations is the last thing they do. So you never know.
I have a question to the BLM mains:
If umbral soul is to manage downtime mechanics, how do you manage downtime pre 76 assuming they will NOT change the level req of Umbral Soul? Like in UCOB for example?
I think we should wait for the job quests before we label Viper as a fantasy failure. They may give insight as to why they're called that.
35:22 The design philosophy with Viper seems to make it mechanically simpler than Monk, so that the difficulty of managing three buffs is balanced out.
In contrast, Monk is more challenging both mechanically AND in terms of buff management. It's that overload that caused the Monk to be re-evaluated.
I also feel that Viper is 'Rogue, but not rogue'; since we already have Rogue as a 'class'. Viper is a way to play the 'rogue' fantasy, instead of being forced to be a ninja. I think that makes a lot of sense as to why the Viper is focused around applying these buffs/debuffs, and the Monk is more focused on the direct damage from punching things. Managing the uptime on Monk buffs/debuffs never felt like it fit the Monk fantasy, and was one of the things that turned me off the job, as Yoshi-P described.
Whereas rogues and Vipers (the animal) are known for poison and venom, which I assume are represented through the buffs/debuffs.
That said, I do wish that Viper didn't have the double-blade mode. I think that dual-swords makes much more sense for the job fantasy, and having the double-blade mode just dilutes that identity.
lets see how the ancestral hunter from viper pans out, but i think it whould have been a better case to make reaper scouting as garlean assasins who doesnt even wear heavy artifact armour and make viper judge with zydane flavor instead. jugde dredd but from landis
Agree with Sly on Picto!
I'll never understand the hate of deaths design
I take every change with a grain of salt until we actually get to play with all of it
Sly is kinda boring🥲
Totally understandable why players like Sly arent vibing with Picto but ive been hoping for a goofy job like this.
We already have a good selection of edgelord, "badass", and elegant jobs so this is a welcome addition imo.
"Picto doesn't look cool" Sly, you shush, I mainly associate you with Dark Knight and Dragoon.
No bashing the emo look, I love it too. But let the RAINBOW PEOPLE decide if the rainbow class is cool; Facts; Rainbow class is cool. The only thing I wish was that the landscapes were MORE rainbow.
I kind of agree with Happy on Viper's identity.
It's Reaper with a different weapon. It has a simple kit, enshroud, it has Gluttony (double blade move).
Viper is just "Dude with Weapon" Just a job they designed to get the weapon in with no depth.
About the viper job identity. It’s exactly the kind of identity I was looking for surprisingly. It’s a rogue with twin swords and leather jackets idk what’s not fucking badass about that
Before the live letter I was really excited for the Viper. But now I am more excited for the Ninja
