  1. Now expect requests to watch Verhoven's other two sci-fi films of the 80's & 90's, Robocop and Total Recall. Troopers is a bit of a subversive film that takes multiple viewings to catch everything. It's digs on fascism, the propaganda, and the Nazi feel of the uniforms. As well as the hints that it was us that started the war in the first place. I've always enjoyed it because of two of mt favorite actors, Michael Ironside and Clancy Brown.

  2. I've always enjoyed this film for what it was, an over the top campy giant bug movie. Often it, and the book that it is based on, get (mis)interpreted by different people to fit their varying agendas. Sometimes a movie is just a movie.

  3. β€œThank you for being a friend.” πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ I agree – the funeral could’ve used bagpipes. 😁 I was happy to see you giggle with this as much as I did. Even though there are two live-action and two CG anime sequels, the animated series – Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles – does a good job of finding a balance between both the book and the film.

  4. I've always loved this campy film, it is a hilarious satire of military states and propaganda…just too funny in that respect. Want to know more?

That was Jake Busey, the son of Gary.
He spent months learning to play the violin for this role just so it would look real…true method actor there.
It is still unknown whether the audio of the violin playing was really him or dubbed, but he is playing for real in those scenes regardless.

I really like how you caught the apparent fake feel when Denise Richard's character forced out an 'I love you' when they were all leaving for basic training.
I remember seeing this in the theater and thinking she doesn't seem to really mean that…and lo and behold, she dumped him….yup, we called that one.

Also, I lost count of how many heads get lobbed off in this, but thankfully it is just hokey and campy enough of a movie, that we can still let out a giggle at times when it happens.
The fact that this film makes no pretenses as to how hokey it is, makes it so good. It embraces what it is, so it is a far better movie than it would have been if it took itself serious.

PS: the ship captain was not half the badass Janeway was…put her up against the Borg Queen….

I Belive there are a total of 4 or 5 movies, I think this the only one with this Director…….
This Director also did the "Total Recall" with Schwartzenegger, and "RoboCop"…… He has a Different Style…..

  6. As a kid i watched for action. As an adult for the satire. You should do the rest of the Verhoeven trilogy of Robocop and Total Recall. My favorite memory of this movie is that my grandma took me to it, i dont think she ever forgave me

  7. Great reaction,πŸ‘ as someone already mentioned in the comments "Total Recall" and "Robocop" are also worth watching and they have a more complex plot.
