You should check out the FSO (Film Symphony Orchestra) version of the Superman March.
Not only did John Williams do Movie scores he also did a lot of Tv series scores as well.
Williams' Star Wars OST is HEAVILY influenced by Holst's "The Planets". I would say this IS classical music, it's just written for a film just like other classical music is written for an opera or a ballet.
John Williams is a musical genius. His movie music is legendary. This orchestra definitely rocked it out.
Composers like Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and LeRoy Anderson ("Blue Tango," "Sleigh Ride" et. al.) even Elton John, and Neil Diamond, are geniuses of composition. Like Beethoven they "hear" what they write even before they put it on the manuscript paper. Just gifts that we music "students" have to learn.
Listen to Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite, especially 'Mars' and see where John Williams got his inspiration…
Thank you! You're the only person I've seen react to this type of music. My cousin is am actor (not famous) in movies & tv shows & he also was a voice actor in the videogame Red Dead Redemption. His name is Juan Carlos Hernandez. It would be awesome to hear you sing Duel Of The Fates from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace! The Danish National Symphony Orchestra performs this on Youtube
the movie version was done by the London Symphony under the direction of John Williams……
Maggie could you react to my favorite symphonic viking metal band from Finland wintersun? I sent you a list of suggestions but i didn't get your response. But its ok i can give you the list here in the comments. First is wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 official lyric video. Next is wintersun time live rehearsal video at Sonic pump studio in Helsinki Finland. After that is wintersun land of snow and sorrow live rehearsal video. And Maggie wintersun is a sister band with nightwish and epica. So if you love nightwish and epica you'll love wintersun. And you could easily get work in my opinion at Disney singing as Disney female characters right? But send me your reply what you think. Thank you much love wintersun Alex ❄️❤️🫶🌹
And another great reaction as always Maggie your new subscriber wintersun Alex ❄️❤️❤️🌹
I think the one word you were looking for is "Marshal" as in military, marching music.
I've watched this before, and it is excellent! And they got someone to do an impression of Liam Neeson!
I love this piece (Darth Vader’s Theme), and purchased a download of it many years ago. I think it’s a very strong, mighty symphonic piece, as befitting the character.
👍❤️❤️
@maggiereneemusic some of the repetition you reference is less about "modern" style but rather a throwback to Wagner with the use of leitmotifs to represent characters and ideas (so you have that operatic influence too). When you see a character on screen or concept (like the force in star wars) then Williams blends in the motifs for that particular character or idea into the music (just like Wagner in the Ring Cycle). In Empire Strikes back you hear either the full version of the Imperial March whenever Vader (or imperial forces) are on screen or variations of that. In Return of the Jedi you hear a mournful version of the March when Vader (Anakin) is redeemed but now dying.
Sometimes, he modifies motifs or blends multiple motifs to generate new ones. Like Anakin's motif in phantom menace actually references a part of the imperial march (Vader motif) that sounds more childlike with only a hint of future menace, foreshadowing who he becomes.
Williams does this kind of stuff throughout the Star Wars scores (and many of his other franchise movie works) and was an absolute genius for this stuff. His scores are really helping to tell the story and if you listen to his Star Wars scores you can actually see the scenes of the movies playing out in your head.
Also the style of this type of "cinematic movie" music is definitely a throwback to the Romantic style of "classical" music. This tradition in movie scores was arguably cemented by past great composers such as Max Steiner and Korngold. However by the late 70s, movie soundtracks had moved past that into other sounds, but Williams basically helped bring back that Romantic classical tradition to movie soundtracks (Star Wars being a big catalyst for that) and we've kept the tradition since 🙂
I personally believe that the music in Star Wars is the best and most important aspect of it. Just try to imagine it with no music or inferior music. Totally different movies. John Williams is a master of "program music", coming up with a theme and fill for every important character, situation and emotion but without overdoing it.
Pop question. Does anyone actually sing in any of the many Star Wars movies, TV or animated series, other than the several musical groups such as in Jabba's lair? I mean characters, whether important or passing. I can't think of any, but there's got to be at least one somewhere.
And, I think you're referring to a musical leitmotif, made famous by Wagner in his operas. Motifs and themes are very big in John Williams' music. He always comes back to them, when it makes sense.
You must listen to "Star Wars The Phantom Menace, Episode 1", also by John Williams, and loaded with vocales, it's a masterpiece.
Sorry for the "hit and run" comment here, but I'm hoping that you will get back to reacting to Angelina Jordan someday. I know your first two reactions to her had some "YT issues", but even your original uploads for those reactions are available again, so hopefully you won't have as many problems going forward. My particular recommendation would be the black-and-white music video for "I Put a Spell on You" on her official channel, which she did when she was 9. This is mainly because you've already reacted to a live version by the original songwriter and performer of that song, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, but also because it should bring a lot of Angelina fans back to your channel to recommend other things to you.
I cant help it, and you can hate on me for it. I hear it its immediate star wars ok, but as i listen to it it makes me think mary poppins. Spoonfull of sugar makes the medicine go down. Listen to it and think those for a second. Again dont hate, shes the one who said ac/dc was like rock n roll elmo
Hey, can you react to RLY please? They're an amazing girl band from the UK and one of the girls is my vocal coach! She also won the voice kids at 13 years old!! The band won x factor the band in 2019 and have released their ep in April
Marches are just for war? Somebody better call all of the high school and middle school bands and tell them they're playing war music! I guess that makes John Philip Sousa a warmonger. SMH
The Danish National Symphony! Repeat that three times! Awesome performance. Everything they do is awesome! The best performance of the “Imperial March” concert arrangement.
I’m old enough, which means lucky enough, to have seen John Williams on tour performing Star Wars. I saw him again a few years later. He had written “concert arrangements” of the most popular themes.
He added the “Olympic Theme”, “Imperial March”, “NBC Nightly News”, and many others to the song list. The Danish National Symphony takes me back to those memorable concerts.
Personally this always reminded me of Prokofiev, Romeo and Juliet Suite, “Montagues and Capulets”
John Williams conducting the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is another good version.
If you like singing movie music Please, Please react to “The Great Movie Medley “ by Voctave. Thanks
You never seen Star Wars? I think so. You just have to see at least part 4. Seeing & hearing will give you the understanding of SW and the Force. No I'm not SWfan babbling. Feeling a voice (Geoff his sub-voice. Or the orchestra who helps you in a specific song. That's the Force.)
Atmospheres from 2001 a space odyssey. Creepy choir music.
I remember Williams said in one interview he wanted the Imperial March to be majestic, spectacular, and without a soul. Just like the Empire.
This genre would be "original motion picture score".
That being said, there is clear signs of classical composers inspiring John Williams work, especially Gustav Holst ("The Planets" mostly) for his original trilogy Star Wars scores.
In Williams's score for Superman there is a cue/track called "The Planet Krypton" which starts with a movement almost identical to Richard Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" used famously in the film 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Another instance is the famous DUH DUN DUH DUN score theme cue in Jaws that Williams clearly was riffing on part of Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite Of Spring" as seen in Disney's Fantasia during the volcano segment of that piece.
The more I relisten to film scores as an adult, the more I begin to recognise the classical music inspirations that went into it.
There are a whole bunch of great film composers worth rifling through for their music.
John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, James Horner, Michael Kamen are a great place to start.
Incidentally, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner did scores for the 1st and 2nd films respectively on 2 major film franchises of the 70s and 80s:
Alien and Star Trek.
