they are Ewoks. They had 2 movies and a Cartoon series. You can learn more facts in From Star Wars to Jedi the Making of a Saga.
Fun fact, in the early 90's Lucasarts created a multi-media Star Wars production called Shadows of the Empire, detailing events between Empire and Return. Had a video game, comic, novel, and toy line. Basically everything for a movie tie-in, but no movie. Came off the heels of the highly successful Thrawn novel trilogy. I believe it was a testing ground for interest in the franchise leading up to the release of the Special Editions. While I can't say Shadows was all that amazing, it lead to a couple of really good Star Wars games for the Nintendo 64. Rogue Squadron series and Episode 1 Racer.
I feel like Leia is more disturbed by the fact Vader is her father. The light incest kinda pales compared to the knowledge your father commits genocide.
Another great reaction to a classic! I was 15 when Star Wars came out, 19 for Empire and 22 for Return. It was terrible waiting so long!
17 years later (1999) The Phantom Menace was released and I took my 7 yo son. That was a long wait! Unfortunately the other two trilogies don't live up to the original. But you can be the judge of that!
There are subtitles for some of the alien dialogue so be sure to turn on the appropriate subtitle tracks in future films.
The light saber had been planned to be blue. It was blue in an early commercial. When they realized that blue wouldn’t show up well against the blue sky, the color was changed to something similar: green.
A very helpful guide to the names for all these characters and vehicles is the Kenner Star Wars action figure catalog from the 1980s. Actually, there were several from 1978 to 1985.
Leia wasn't originally designed to be Luke's sister. That decision wasn't made until this movie. The original idea was for Luke to defeat Vader in this trilogy, but a following trilogy would involve Luke's sister – trained by the Force Ghost of Anakin Skywalker – defeating Emperor Palpatine. But, by the time this came out, Lucas, who was going through a nasty divorce, was burnt out and just wanted to wrap things up. So, he made the only other girl in the series Luke's sister.
You wondered in TESB how The Empire came into power. That is all answered in the prequel trilogy (and various cartoon series, which do a much better job making young Anakin Skywalker likable than the movies).
The little bear guys are called Ewoks, although that's never actually said in the film. The original idea was to have the second Death Star being constructed around Chewbacca's homeworld of Kashyyk, with the Wookiees as low-tech slave labor. Lucas decided that having seen Chewie being technologically skilled kind of detracted from that, so he came up with the Ewoks…the word "Ewok is basically 'Wookiee' mixed up; "iee-wook" – loosely based on the Viet Cong successfully fighting the more advance US Army during the Viet Nam War, which had just finished when Lucas started filming the original Star Wars.
.
Fun Fact: While filming the Endor forest scenes, Chewbacca had to have bodyguards on sight because they were concerned he might be mistaken for Bigfoot and shot.
Leia was the princess of her home planet of Alderaan, which was blown up by the first Death Star in the first film. And she is still the princess of all the surviving Alderaanians.
She was also the senator of Alderaan in the Imperial Senate before the emperor did away with it in the first film. Her father Bail Organa was the senator before her and he was married to Queen Breha Organa. Both were killed when Alderaan was destroyed.
You were asking if Leia displayed any signs of having the force, remember at the end of Empire Strikes back, when Luke was dangling at the bottom of cloud city, he reached out to Leia, and she heard him and knew where to find him.
To be fair, Like and Leia never made out. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek in Episode IV and they shared one kiss in Empire.
This is the Special Edition version. When Lucas decided to make the prequels, he went back to the original trilogy and made changes. He said that that the technology didn't exist yet when he made the original 3 to fulfil his vision. One controversial change in A New Hope, was in the cantina when Han kills Greedo. Originally, Han drew his gun 1st. Lucas thought, in hindsight, that it made Han more of a cold blooded killer, so he made Greedo draw first so Han would be shooting in self defense. Anyhow, in Return of the Jedi, he replaced the band in Jabba's palace, which were originally puppets, with silly CG ones AND changed the music. At least John Williams was able to do the rescore. Another place that was changed was at the end. When Anakin's Force Spirit appears with Ben and Yoda, the actor who played Vader at the unmasking was replaced with the actor who plays young Anakin in the prequels. The Ewok Celebration was modified to include celebrations from the planets that are in the prequels, to tie the films together. The music again was changed for this sequence. The original celebration music can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot_JAr4rkqw&list=PLwon-8yqcJVLi5kI0h8nQyBSdPxv8D5zn&index=19 The original ban music in Jabba's Palace can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF43O2UhqP4&list=PLonU6sZXHsfpJuypBU28JpCO18aa7Ym0K&index=9 Lucas claims that the original negatives were changed for the Special Editions, and the original trilogy no longer exists in it's originally released form. Me and millions of fans hope this is B.S. and, now that Disney owns the series, the original versions will be released someday.
This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. I've probably seen it at least once a year since. I never noticed Vader/Anakin smiling just before he died until you pointed it out!
Vader’s design is partially based on samurai costumes. Originally he was not related to Luke at all and was just a generic thug for the empire with a more or less normal face. But when the script called for him to travel from one ship to another through space, Lucas realized he would need a mask to breathe through, and after that the mask became part of his regular look.
Love your reactions! Not sure what version you were watching… But most of Jabba's dialogue should of had subtitles on Disney plus.
wow, you have insight. the creatures are called Ewoks. you said they look like minnie wookies. lucas literally said when he made this that he took a wookie caut it in half and called it anewok.well played good man
great reaction! you said something i have talked about with people before. the fight scene with vader and luke in the throne room. the colors, the meaning, the music, jsut everything about it is brilliant. oh andbtw, the original edning back in 83 had a different song and the force ghost of luke's father was the actor who he saw under the mask and to me that literally makes more sense https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvXm5HuR72k
i can't wait to see your prequel reactions btw. and you will see some more of that color scemes etc.. trust me
ub 1983 i was 9 and my family visited many places out west including CA. the movie came out in may of that year and we were in CA in jly. one place we went to was the Redwood forrest and had a tour, i remember the tour guide lteeing us know the Return of the jedi foorest mooon of endor was actaully flimed there. so yes, this planet those huge trees is the reddowod forrest
Don’t blast and drive. That’s pretty good 😂
i hope to see your reaction to the prequels!
32:50 Wait a minute, I have watched this movie countless times since 1983 and it is now after Leviie react to the scene in 32:50 that I am noticing for the first time what looks like Luke & Leia kissing for a second time in the history of Star Wars. 😱😬
George Lucas must have think of Ender's Game.
33:45 Darth Vader is played by three people. David Prowse dons the suit and acts Vader's body language. David Prowse trained and beefed up Christopher Reeve for the Superman role. James Earl Jones is the voice, both a veteran actor and voice actor. The unmasked Vader at the end of the film is played by Sebastian Shaw.
45:30 These are the Special Edition George Lucas made for the '90s with added poor conceived cgi and other unnecessary twerks. The original film from 1983 Vader says nothing before turning against the Emperor, it was a massive twist because nobody thought Vader would act against the Emperor, when Vader surprisingly body lifted the Emperor the whole theater erupted in cheers & applause. George Lucas adding the “Noooo!” for the Special Edition of the 1990s it just ruined/spoiled the plot twist of this sequence.
47:55 Lando exiting the Death Star is the first near death escape from explosion in cinema's history, after it all action movies started to add near death escape's sequences and it became a staple till this day. It is not only the first but also the only one with the protagonists escaping from inside the fire.
I can't believe how big the capital ships in Star Wars are yeah Vader's Star Destroyer is 11 miles in length. Yeah the Empire builds big that's for sure .
But the biggest Death Star is 100 miles in length. So yeah there's always bigger in this universe.
Well let's just if you're enjoying Star Wars there's going to be a lot of stuff for you to react to like the MCU.
15:51 the Massacre of Tatooine , Luke just killed probably between 500 and 1000 people then. Sure Jabba and a couple of Guards died, and a few allied guests, but probably half the crew were servants who had no choice, Luke literally just blew up around 200-600 innocent people just now LOOL, no one seems to ever notice it
