SPE Thailand Monthly Technical Meeting Live Stream – June 2022

Date: 16 June 2022 Speaker – Dr. Saifon Daungkaew – Reservoir Engineer Advisor, Schlumberger

Topic “Wireline Deep Transient Test Concept and Field Applications vs. Conventional miniDST”

Abstract:
The past few years have not been an easy on the Oil & Gas industry. Many processes and operations have needed to adapt to lower oil & gas prices, caused in part by the COVID-19 pandemic. Understanding reservoir producibility and proving reserves are key to generating a Reservoir Development Plan (FDP). However, the different processes to obtain such answers are strongly dependent on cost. The value of information is extremely important for operators to decide whether to proceed with their discoveries.

In an Interval Pressure Transient Test (IPTT) or known as mini-DST have been widely used in the past 20 years, especially in combination with dual packers, and more recently with single packers. Operation efficiency and safety have improved significantly. This presentation will discuss the IPTT concept and field applications including the IPTT limitation for both probe and inflatable packers.

Second part of this presentation, a Deep Transient Testing (DTT) will be introduced by closing the gap between IPTT and traditional Well Testing methods. With DTT’s, we can flow with wider range of flowrate and longer time than previously possible with formation testers, enabling pressure transient analysis in different quality of reservoirs. Further data quality improvements come from new, high resolution of gauges deployed with an Intelligent Wireline Formation Testing Platform called Ora*. This paper includes a review of the DTT method with several field examples. The benefit of wide range of rate can help to extend the DTT application to tight and ultra tight formations. In addition, the safe, greener testing technology can help us to follow the United Nation (UN) Sustainability Development Goal (SDG).

Dr. Saifon Daungkaew is the Reservoir Engineering Advisor for Schlumberger. She has her first degree in Chemical Engineering from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. She receives her Master and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering from The Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London in 2002. She has been working in the oil and gas industry more than 19 years. Her background is Well Test Analysis. She has been supporting wireline formation testers for various locations including Southern Europe & Mediterranean Region and Asia Pacific (Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia), and Oman. She has over 60 publications and three US patents. She has been served as visiting lecturers and Co-supervisor for Master Thesis from various universities in Thailand, Malaysia, UK and Abu Dhabi and Australia. She also serves as judges for SPE Thailand Award and SPE young professional presentation award. She has been served as technical program committee for SPE, EAGE, IPTC conferences, and SPE ATW and SPE Forum Series since 2002 including local technical publications such as the Geological Society of Malaysia. She received the 2018 Regional Technical Award for Reservoir Description & Dynamics for the Northern Asia Pacific.
