Honestly, changing the boost to R2 was a good choice in my opinion, reminds of Lost World, only without the uncomfortable controller 😀
Am I the only one who's super disappointed by this? Don't get me wrong I love the idea of having Shadow added to Generations with his own moveset and everything, but the game looks like the same lukewarm level design of Forces and Frontiers combined. Sega have been doing this boost thing since 2009 and every passing game seems to get even more uninspired and lazy each year.

We can all agree that despite their level design not being the best (though this is a definite improvement :D) sonic team is in their best artistic era.
Oh weird, they're keeping the right trigger as the boost after Frontiers. I really hope there's an option to toggle between the OG Generations control layout and the new layout for both games. Worst case scenario Sonic only lets you use the 2011 controls and Shadow only lets you use the 2022 controls, in which case RIP the poor kids bouncing back and forth between stories and having to redevelop their muscle memory each time 💀
Either way we better get Chaos Blast to deal with those stupid ass enemy arenas that kill the pacing, they were okay when you had a gun in Shadow the Hedgehog or multiple combat options in 06, but homing attacking each individual one WITH the current stanky homing attack that requires the camera to be facing the enemy, please god no
This looks really tepid, although I am not very surprised with this, based on how bad Sonic Colors Ultimate was. I don’t understand how people are saying this is comparable to Unleashed or Generations. Based on the first level alone, we can already see issues with the game.
There is no challenge, for starters. Some might say “oh well it’s the first level!” but Generations had more challenging first levels that required more from the player than this does. As for Unleashed, the tutorial was a minute long, as opposed to a nearly 5 minute long level where you just hold forward. Not to mention that the first ACTUAL level of Unleashed actually did provide some sort of challenge to the player, and required quick timing and skill to get through, without much automation. What do we have in this demo? A level where half of it is automated, and the other half is just holding a direction while occasionally pressing jump to get over a ledge. This screams Forces/Frontiers gameplay. One might say “but there’s multiple paths now!!” which is true. Issue lies with none of these paths requiring any sort of skill to get to. Doing a chain of homing attacks on enemies to reach an “alternate path” is not a test of skill. Forces did that garbage, as did Sonic 4. Most of the demo footage we have actually has people going to these alternate paths by sheer accident, just playing the game by holding a direction and it happened to direct them towards one of these optional paths. And even then, the paths don’t look any harder than the “normal path” and almost immediately spit you back onto the main path anyhow. So what’s the point of having them? Just to say it’s there?
Another thing, the fan-service is just… wrong? The level is called Space Colony ARK, yet you never actually go on the ARK. What is the purpose of calling it Space Colony ARK if the level itself doesn’t even go there? You just see it off in the distance.
They use the ARK stage theme from Shadow’s game, but it doesn’t feel right. That stage’s music was meant to emulate the feeling of flying, since you would be riding the winged alien through the level.
The robots in the level, as well as the ones Black Doom summons are also just straight up wrong. First things first, why is he summoning robots and not Black Arms aliens? That doesn’t make much sense. Second, the robots he summons not only are not the ones you’d find on the ARK in SA2 or Shadow’s game, they’re the standard Eggman robots from Sonic 06.
This remake from what I’m seeing so far is just nostalgia pandering without actually doing anything interesting with the source material, and pretending like the level design is not piss poor by creating sweeping spectacle shots and offering players “alternate paths” that end up being hollow.
Sonic fans really are so starved for a 3D game that is the quality of Unleashed or Generations that they’ll settle for THIS garbage? I’m good, I think I’d unapologetically rather play Shadow the Hedgehog on my PS2. At least that game tried to do something interesting.
There’s so much to talk about that I can’t get why I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m still surprised I haven’t seen anyone acknowledge one part of this yet. No 2D sections.
How are the physics and controls? Are they better than Cyberspace?

Why do they sell it to us as if it were Sonic Generations if they are clearly using the hedhehog engine 2.0? It seems more like an extension of Sonic Frontiers than Generations
This is literally the best level design SEGA has brought to the table since generations….Also great to see some of the dynamic cutscenes they struggled to bring from concept to reality in Forces (due to poor execution), be executed here in meaningfully awesome way…clearly see the lessons being learned implemented here from game to game

About the speed boost ting, it would be best to see Shadow use his Air Shoes as he glides that would look far better. We did see that on Sonic Prime and it would be best if we see that on the game too

Leaving aside the references and the hype, I am worried that I see it as very poorly optimized, I assume that you are playing it on a PS5, and even so it has FPS drops 💀💀💀
