Some People RUINED It For Everyone | Goodwill Thrifting For Reselling

Today we go to thrifting looking for items to flip online. We go to the nice Goodwill and talk about the new policy at the store. The honest customers are not happy about this.

  1. Goodwill is putting itself out of business. I went in the other day and there were only two people in the store. It used to be packed. They are using a spreadsheet to see how to make more money and it’s really how to lose money because if they cut out all of their decent items to sell online, there is no reason to go to the Goodwill and look for, a treasure because there are no treasures there anymore.

  4. Like any other store they have rent, utilities, insurance , employees to pay.and they have to go thru all the bags and boxes of donated “chit” to find a couple nice pieces, you wouldn’t know the crap that people donate

  5. Dude Some of the pricing of the merchandise you're looking at is just it's ridiculous, it's more, then what at least on poshmark, and when I see on whatnot and and unfortunately I don't know if you're covering this, but at least on posh, if you're not turning on the camera and selling yourself live good luck, I mean yeah. Maybe 4 months ago, we're now at the end, our Christmas season fourth quarter of 2024. If you don't, you do not turn on that camera and go live. I don't see much moving at all. We're definitely what not light, and the standards are so high and so much of the merchandise you're showing and what they're charging. It's way out of touch of even what we're able to charge now, so this is yeah, this is a lot of the problem and why their bids are maybe the goodwill bins are going to start getting really good because they just they're doing, it's just it's insane. And the other problem is, when stuff goes to the bins that are plucking it right back out and putting it on their website. So I mean, goodwill is just the worst if you have other thrift stores maybe savers, we have a little local place here. I'm not even a name, it's just like yeah, goodwill is just the worst they're just the worst

  6. What I really hate is the policy they adopted during the pandemic and then kept because it proved to be more lucrative for them.
This is the policy at the start of the pandemic: You can't try on clothes anymore for safety reasons.

Okay. I expected that to be lifted when all the other stores opened up their dressing rooms.

    They never did.

Not only can you not try anything on, but you can't return it to get your money back, either. Yes, you used to be able to do that as recently as 2019. You had a choice: money back, or store credit.

    Now it's just store credit.

They realized they could raise profits that way. You pay, you pray the item will fit, it doesn't, you return it for store credit. The company keeps their money, and what you exchange it for within 60 days may be more than the original item. Boom! They make more money!

You just have to take your best guess, risk it, and if it doesn't fit, oh well. You're stuck with someone you don't want, they keep your money, and you have 60 days to find something you do want – but you still have to play their game.

You could also donate your items and get a receipt for 15% off a purchase if you bought something from the store the same day. You could also get a receipt to include with your taxes for a donation deduction.

    Can't do that anymore, either.

You literally can't do anything but donate stuff, and buy stuff. That's it. They even changed the color tags. One tag would be 25% off, and another would be 50% off. Now it's just one tag at half off.

Their permanent pandemic policy is "Can't try on clothes. No money. Only exchange or store credit. No more percentage off a purchase in store if you donate that same day. No more receipts for donation discounts on taxes."

So, if you need pants, but are like me and NEED to try them on, because you don't have a body made for a lot of clothes, you're SOL. You buy. You pray. You return for another pair of pants – maybe paying a little more for the new pants – and Loop until you're lucky enough to find something.

I've had to donate back things I've bought that never worked out and it sucks.
