  1. Rusty to the Rescue is another absolute favorite episode of mine from the show! The visuals and music (including that moon) really shines through and I love how Rusty is expanded on given he was the least used character by Awdry in the books. While this is a controversial episode and I understand ppl's opinion about Stepney's origins being changed in the show (I'll admit I did portray him as just a visiting engine from the actual Bluebell Railway like it was in the books in my series), but I really don't mind it here cause when you put it that way, Bluebells of England feels very short and not a lot of action but just Percy explaining to Douglas about the Bluebell Railway.

Both Michael Angelis and George Carlin did a fairly wonderful job narrating this episode, though I also do love Michael's big booming voice for the diesels acting like guards when Rusty entered the Other Railway's yards (I'll admit even I used to be scared by this episode from that very scene of Rusty's shocked face). A real sum-up/standout episode of S4 regardless of controversy.

  2. I remember when I did a review of this episode myself a few months ago. And I’m gonna say it, this is my favourite episode of Season 4. The music in this one is just phenomenal.

If you want me to go into further detail about how much I love this episode, then I feel like I emphasise it a bit more in my own review of it.

  3. Now I never understood that this was not based on the original Bluebells of England story until I read the RWS book Stepney The Bluebell Engine. I have been to the Bluebell Line myself and met the real life Stepney. I saw this episode a lot as a kid and I used to be terrified of Michael Angelis's echo voices from The Diesels

  4. I do have a theory on why this episode changes Stepney's introductory story: I think it has something to do with budget reasons. I mean think about it. The other bluebell railway engines don't appear in this episode and even if they did have the budget to make them then they would end up not appearing again afterwards. This could also apply to the next episode and why the first half is different from the book.

  5. Sighed I Don't liked Rusty to the Rescue I am sorry because I feel like it is a copy and paste of Oliver's escape backed in Season 3 Don't wrong that's it is one my favourite season 3 episode backed in your last year Thomascember but I am pretty sure Stepney is a real life engine just like in the Railway series order but Speaking of Narrators I Absolutely loved Michael Angelis Booming The Other Railway Diesels voices apparently they reused Mavis Boco & Daisy Fair enough but I feel it is Rusty is doing saving and Debut the Stepney Trilogy & How does the narrow gauge railway goes all the way to the mainland because I Prefer the book version of Stepney's Debut and That's it my review of Rusty to the Rescue for me is 2.5/10 Sorry Dude!

  6. I very much enjoyed this episode when I first saw it. Rusty has his first leading role and he gets to have his biggest adventure yet. It loved the parts that refer to 'Escape' when Rusty spoke to Douglas about Oliver. The music used during Rusty's time on the Other Railway is fitting to the scene. But the rescue theme they used for Stepney leavig with Rusty is an absolute treasure. I always enjoy listening to it.

I cannot understand why this episode has a lot of controversy, even though it tells a great story. I recommend others watch it too, as there is quite a lot to enjoy in it.

  7. I totally disagree with the hate towards this episode especially when they go so far to say it’s worse than anything that Nirogen and BWBA produced because it was still beautifully filmed and written and orchestrated.. I even have seen the real life Stepney before at the bluebell railway as a child.
    An iconic episode.

  8. For me, I am on Team RWS (no surprise there). But tbh, I completely understand why they entirely rewrote Stepney’s backstory. I mean, sure it goes against reality and history a lot. But I understand it entirely, as they didn’t have the budget to build sets for The Real Bluebell Railway in England, or models of all The Real Bluebell Engines either. They had already spent thousands to millions of British Pounds on the models and sets for Season 4 alone, so they couldn’t afford to build even more. They had no choice but to rewrite the story. So whilst this episode’s rewrite is nowhere near as good as The Books Version IMO, I applaud the TV Team for taking initiative and doing the best with what they could afford to do. I admit, I am also nostalgic for The TV Version, as I had it as a kid on my Seasonal Scrapes VHS. So yeah, I dislike the rewrite now I am an adult. But I also strongly applaud the team for being resourceful and doing what was best for the season.
