“It’s A Thought” is a breezy power pop tune that took numerous re-recorded overdubs to get right…and in my opinion it’s still a bit wonky. The vocal tracks were recorded and dubbed over several years, so the feel is not quite cohesive and strange, and the drums are all over the place. Lyrically, the love interest switches from Susan to my mom to myself, which is a bit convoluted, but at the same time the overall message is the power of possibility, of love over all, sort of a thematic if schizophrenic update of Brian Wilson’s “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”. The best thing about the completed song is the exquisite lead guitar work by Jay Shine.
“Wrestling with guilt, remorse and redemption, my Cosmic Knockout occurs upon the realization that the characters I paint are all shattered reflections of my own psyche. Stepping in and out of frame allows me to examine my life and issues from different perspectives, visualizing my return to Eden. My only task is fulfilling my pact with The Creator by committing the unimaginable feat of forgiving myself.”
These songs were written specifically for the paintings and narrative that followed several psychotic breaks. The best of which fleshed out in “Latrine Studios”, my makeshift recording rig set up in various broom closets and bathrooms hidden from the administrators in Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, Queens Village, N.Y.
