The Seychelles is known as a tropical paradise with a multi-million dollar tourist industry. But beyond the 5-star hotels and azure beaches is a country in turmoil. Based on population, Seychelles has the biggest heroin problem in the world with around 10% of Seychellois dependent on the drug. Joseph Fady Banane, who’s lived on the islands all his life, was one of them.
Now free of heroin, Fady investigates the secret epidemic that lies behind the luxury. Meeting drug users, dealers, police, and the communities caught in the middle, Fady confronts a painful past and tries to reconnect with those he loves…and almost lost.

Is it just me or does his eyes look like he high on something himself 🤔… Be strong 💪
Well done for getting away from it. Try not to be around it and you'll have a better chance of never going back. Romanticising (your personal love affair with it)it almost as you're doing by telling this story is dangerous.
Thank God. I don’t drink, smoke or take cocaine. I’m very grateful. I’ve never smoked even cigarette in my life.
Heroin is the Devil self, Devil reincarnate
I love seychelles, have been there many times it is so beautiful but i never thought that 10% of the population use drags not even 1%.i wish them all the best the one who want to recover, so sad and bad to see when the youth are dying.
The president should declare his exclusive economic area a war zone all around the island. He needs a fleet of armed drones patrolling the shores and to sink any ship seen in those waters… no exceptions. Shoot at anything that floats… do the same thing as N. Korea does or Eritrea. They would stop coming to your island and they'll take their business elsewhere.
The drug lords control the government. He habilitating people is not good for drug business.
He ll smoke again. Trust me !
good documentary n very sad for the people who have passed away..really touched by watching this..well done adi n what a beautifull country..
Jude is a very intelligent boy, hope he gets better
We should’ve br
Excellent documentary. What lovely people the Seychelles people are, so sad this evil drug has been visited upon them.
I thought since after they got the British out seychelles would be better, so the government left those fuckers into the country to sell drugs to the vulnerable and placid seychelloise people. The government to kick out the Arabs Nigerians Afghanistan. and European out if the islands. If Tunisia can kick out black Africans because they think they are white then why can't we not kick out those people and the Iranian people who smuggle drugs. The Chinese and Russians would live this .SEYCHELLES GOVERNMENT NEED THE EFING ARMY TO KICK OUT THESE DIRTY PEOPLE SELLING THE SRUGS
Fade you are so honourable
Fady's son provides hope for the future .
Powerful documentary. Much love and regards going out to all the people there facing addiction
Interesting that the UAE are wanting to fund the rehabilitation; the government need to invest in their people. Very sad to watch; such a beautiful island, an island of paradise!
Why only negative stories about Africa from the BBC?? I'm in the United States and no countrie's drug epidemic is bigger than ours. And Europe also has a heroine problem. ESPECIALLY GERMANY (Hamburg/Munich)…..Try talking about the beautiful beaches in Seychelles
Your son is an amazing young mad. Amazing amazing documentary 🙏
methadone a disaster x addicts, was for me. it s great if used 5 6 days but if used for months…one of the hardest to kick. horribly addictive. must be combined with therapy, or it s a waste of time.
Seychelles, Africa. BBC.
