Sega Saturn Collection – Sega Head

Time for a collection video and today we focus on the underdog of the 32 bit era, The Sega Saturn.
Although it wasnโ€™t exactly a 3D powerhouse it was indeed epic with itโ€™s powers over 2D video games and while itโ€™s library of games may appear somewhat limited you may be surprised at just how many great games never left Japan.
So what games do I have to show you today?

  1. The Saturn's boxes were TOTALLY DIFFERENT in Canada… and they were totally different in Japan! That would make it a significantly better system to collect for in the UK: you're not constantly dealing with chipped translucent plastic on the corners.

  2. In the US at least, Christmas Nights was included with an issue of Next Generation. I actually bought it new at a drug store when it came out.
Great video as always and it's always cool seeing your collections.

  3. Great video. The Christmas Nights you've got is the counter-top free version. You could just pick them up from UK game shops (no magazine required). The other version came in a plastic CD sleeve and was cover-mounted to Sega Saturn Magazine (Dec 97).
Damned good collection you've got going there. The Japanese market is huge. I buy from Ebay or Genki videogames.
My best pickup was Deep Fear, though i didn't know it at the time (ยฃ17 – many moons ago). Thought i was buying a different game so was quite disappointed when i got home. I just threw the game in a box and it lived in our loft for nigh on 20 years).
Best of luck in your collecting quest.

  4. Saturn was a great console. To bad the japanese kept so many of the awesome games.
Also that original japanese controller/ 2cnd generation western controller is one of the most comfortable controllers for 2D gaming.
I'm glad 8bitdo based the design of the M30 after the saturn pad.

  5. Ive got 84 saturn games, mostly bought before the silly prices started. I wholly recommend the following; Road Rash, Need for Speed, Crusader No Remorse, Scorcher, Quake, Duke Nukem, Steep slope sliders, Panzer dragoon (all of them), Z, Burning rangers, Deep fear, shining force 3, winter heat, world league soccer 98, Fighters Megamix, F1 Challenge, Die Hard Arcade, KOF 95, Impact racing, Nights, Sonic R, Amok, Saturn Bomberman, and many more. Get ready to get your wallet out ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Ah, Alien Trilogy, the game that taught me that First Person Shooters give me Motion Sickness ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
That was a fascinating tidbit of info on Croc, and you think your videos don't educate ๐Ÿ˜‰
Myst is a classic, but I'm old ๐Ÿคฃ
I'm intrigued about Photo CD ๐Ÿค”
Laura Croft, Lara's lesser known younger sister ๐Ÿ˜‰
    A nice collection bud ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

  7. Great video ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘Œ I recently got into the Japanese library myself and look forward to hearing how you get on!

If you like shoot โ€˜em ups, Iโ€™d say Layer Section and Detana Twinbee Yahho Deluxe Pack are well worth a look!

  8. That's an awesome collection you've got there my man! While I didn't personally own a Saturn, I have great memories of playing on my mate down the road's machine. He had a couple of lightguns, so we spent days of our lives learning the patterns to enemy attacks in most of the arcade conversions. We had to save our paper round money to get games, so it took ages too, but he had loads of games. Living close to Special Reserve was pretty handy in that respect! Bloody great video Tom, the way you explain things is brilliant!

  9. Nice, the Sega Saturn was a good console! I didn't own one, but my cousin did ๐Ÿ˜€ He had Tomb Raider (which yeah was glitchy compared to the PS1 game), Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter. He had a few Japanese games, like Fighting Vipers but didn't have the converter to play them :/ Warcraft 2 and Myst are great games, I've played those on PC ๐Ÿ˜€๐ŸŽฎ

  10. That's a really great set of games you have there for the Saturn. Picked up a model 2 a few years ago and I still only have a very small set of games. Stuff is pretty pricey up here in Scandinavia.
Got two pal games being Sonic Jam and Tomb Raider. The rest are JP imports. Id love to pick up some more in the future, but it's gonna hurt the wallet big time haha.
Some of my must haves would be Panzer Dragoon and Bust a Move 2

Cheers and keep up the good work!

  12. Also. Euro Saturn cases are massively better than the ones we got over here. I feel like I'm playing with brittle, ancient artifacts every time I open one of those huge, stupid jewel cases. Also, play Nights with an arcade stick. Far superior to the 3d pad, in my opinion. (Edit: You just said you don't have an arcade stick? I have a 1st party and 3rd party available.)
