Hogwarts Legacy is MASSIVE. I mean MASSIVE and because of that there’s a LOT to be discovered. Some of it is found through the main and side missions given to us by our teachers but a lot of it is hidden away in secret and it’s up to the player to uncover all of the easter eggs hidden in the world.
This easter egg is hidden in the water outside of the Slytherin common room and can only be accessed if you are sorted into Slytherin during the sorting hat ceremony towards to start of the Hogwarts Legacy campaign.
It’s a brilliant little nod to the Giant Squid which is a Magical Beast that’s regularly been referred to in the Harry Potter books as living the the Great Lake on the grounds of hogwarts. The Giant Squid even has it’s own chocolate frog collectible card!

what?? i also saw the tentacles when i was flying past the lake in hogwarts with a broom while doing some side quests. its tentacles were long and kinda orange lmao

Sometimes you can see tentacles sticking up out of the lake when you fly over it. They spawn randomly.
You can also see the squid when flying over the loch mortar on your broom or hippogriff

I’ve actually seen it multiple time outside hogwarts in the lake. It randomly appears
It comes out of the black lake too. Not the only time you can see it.
