Saving Roddie – Stray Rescue of St.Louis

The heat seems to send everyone into a frenzy. Abuse rises when the heat spikes year after year. And so far, this year has been no exception. Last week during the extreme heat, we rescued more than 20 dogs, and Roddie was one of them. She was shot. The bullet entered through the front of her leg, shattered her bone, and is now lodged near her shoulder. Sadly, because the break is right in half, she needed an amputation to recover. She had her leg amputated, but now she is pain free. Here she is snuggling with one of our trainers, Rosie, in the lobby. She loves no part of her day more than her snuggle sessions.
This baby girl is ready to go to foster and would love a quiet home where there are plenty of snuggling sessions throughout the day. Strayrescue.org/foster

  1. It's really a shame that animals need to be rescued from the abuse of human monsters. I'd be happy with a lot less humans in this world and I'm sure those would be a lot safer as well. What has humanity become without humaneness?

  3. Even though I live far away (CA), I was so touched by the work you do, in often very stressful and difficult situations. I already support about ten animal welfare organizations every month but was compelled to add you so that I can do my little part to help. It's partly in memory of Nellie, a pit bull I adopted from our local humane society and loved very much.

  4. How? Just, how does someone justify that? There are a LOT of other questions I have about human behavior that make zero sense, but let's start with HOW is it EVER okay to abuse an animal?

  5. Itโ€™s amazing what you guys do for these dogs. Iโ€™m very bias with dogs and fell in love with the bully breeds years ago. So seeing this beautiful dog get saved and have a hopeful future is heart warming. Keep up the work

  7. I grew up in a home where animals were abandoned at best, and brutalized or even killed at worst: horses, rabbits, chickens, roosters, cats, kittens, and dogs. I saw it all and could do nothing to stop it. The worst offender found it all quite entertaining and would laugh as he forced me to watch. I stopped eating meat when I was just 12 (I'm 52 now). I take excellent care of my cats, who have lived to 19, 20, and 21 (while I now I have two five year old cats). I feed all the local birds, including the local crow family. I rescue birds who need rescuing. I take peanuts with me when I go out so I can feed all the crow families along my way. They even know me! None of this feels like enough to make up for what my family did to animals when I was a little girl. None of it.
