Sarah's Island Rescue | Ep. 4: Ready, set, demo!

It’s November in Georgian Bay (brrr!), and Alex and construction master Kris are on the island smashing walls and tearing down ceilings – buh-bye drop ceilings, hello cathedrals! I’m popping in for a site visit to discuss next steps with my trusty Design Life crew for the kitchen and main living areas of our Grande Dame cottage retreat. But we need to move quickly, because the snow is about to roll in and Mother Nature is telling us to pack up and get going!

  1. I love it! Sarah and Alex are the perfect combination. Can’t wait for the next episode! Question: I am paint challenged. I spend hours trying to choose the right color, including swatching, and never, ever, get it right. I want a green, a Pacific Northwest green, not a tropical or grass green, but it has to look good in my space which is unfortunately fairly dark from being closely surrounded by all the Pacific Northwest evergreen trees. I tried so many, finally chose evergreen fog, thinking if it was the color of the year, then hopefully the people who chose it know more than I, but it’s not right. It feels a little too blue and it’s a little too dark, which is crazy because it doesn’t look blue to me at all in pictures or paint chips, but it does here. Do you have a favorite green in mind that you could easily suggest?

  3. I was thinking you should try the old retail counter at the edge of the dining room drop-off. In the closing scenes, I think I saw it being pushed over there. Can't wait to see what you decide.

  5. Saw the finished product in the most recent House and Home mag. Beautiful! When are you heading to the East coast to renovate MY cottage? lol. "Sarah's Fundy Reno"? "Sarah's East Coast Cottage Renaissance"? It could happen.

  6. Ah those views! I'm all in for everything, although your storage stash looks pretty awesome. I was wondering when you said Kris and Alex were moving in thinking they'd be snowmobiling back and forth LOL. Those ceilings are amazing. That rot is nuts.. can't wait to see what you do. Great hat!

  7. I live south of Fort Worth, Texas. We used to have fabulous fabric shops and fun consignment shops, but all or most have disappeared or gone on line. I prefer to see before I buy. I’m hoping soon there will be a resurgence in buying used and getting reupholstered so the fabric store fronts return. Anyone in my area that knows where some actual fabric shops are located please post. Not Joann’s, very limited and same ol’ same ol’.
