Saladin Campaign "Speedrun" – Age of Empires II

Welcome to a comedic speedrun of the Devapala campaign in Age of Empires II, there’s also animations and “comedy” skits in the middle.

Finally, all of the original Age of Kings campaigns have been run, and honestly, this is probably my favorite one by far, not because it was a good time, not because the campaign is good, but because it took me 23 years to finally do this.

Tamerlane is coming, prepare. It’ll be brutal.

A call to arms now for the worst challenges for each of the historical battles: https://forms.gle/5F7Fpijdg1S9jvkj7

  1. 16:02 You're best option against TK and Serjeants are Heavy CA/ HC/ or Arbs. The Saracens have full upgrades for those units. Since you have loads of gold in this campaign I would go Heavy Camel, Heavy CA, Knights, Rams and Bombards.

  2. 1:48 I might feel offended but it's the truth and it's fun as f*** xD

GG This run was super cool, mini you would be proud of what you finally achieved. you can now stop drinking, find a woman and found a familly … I supposed ?
This is great to see how much this campaign was well design from the scenarios to the AGGRESSIVE AND ANNOYING AI. Some of the first campaigns didn't aged well but this one still top tier !

  3. Not a lot of people know this, but you can us the in-game spectate menu to spectate people's co-op campaigns. Among the many things I've seen watching people attempt to beat Saladin, I've witnessed:
-Reynald's Raiders suffering a mighty siege, wherein both players built a huge line of castles right along the cliffside instead of just ramming down all the buildings
-The Tripoli Guards managing to catch a green player completely by surprise, and almost wiping out their entire base by themselves
-Two players building a rival city to Jerusalem in Scenario 4, complete with fortified walls, towers, markets, trade routes, and a university district
And, my favourite of the bunch:
-An army painstakingly leveling every building in Cairo instead of going straight to the mosque (then being massacred by the Eastern Franks)

The game does it's best to simulate the chaos of the nearly 2-year long 1189 Siege of Acre, but it's unlikely any game will ever effectively capture it. The crusader armies began by besieging Acre, only to themselves be besieged by Saladin. The waters around the city changed from control by the crusaders, to the Ayyubids, to the crusaders again, then to the Ayyubids, then finally the crusaders again. At one point, a metallurgist was smuggled by Saladin's forces into the city to whip up a concoction of prototype firebombs, which successfully destroyed the previously-unstoppable crusader siege towers, and victory was uncertain for every belligerent, even after the arrival of powerful crusader kings such as Richard the Lionheart and Phillip of France. Both Kings and Generals and HistoryMarche have good videos on the topic if anyone wants to know more.

  4. Ah yes, a true classic.
And the only thing better than being attacked from all sides is being attacked from all sides while one attacker is protected by water and another one is building a wonder.
