Resident Evil Village Shadows of Rose + Winters’ Expansion Review

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion is a solid addition to this survival horror outing, even if it feels largely unremarkable. Shadows of Rose is a fun new story chapter, but it doesn’t do enough with its unique ideas, and it’s over too quickly, while The Mercenaries continues to feel inessential, even if it is admittedly a much better experience than it was when the base game launched last year.

Third person mode, meanwhile, is an absolute treat, especially if you’re a returning fan looking to play through the game again from a fresh perspective. Taken together, the expansion might not be required reading- but it’s a decent stopgap to hold you over until Capcom drops the next meaty Resident Evil offering.

  1. Im extremely disappointed you cant play Rosy chapter from first-person view. It just doeent work as well for game like this. They should at least give shoulder swap button or if there is I just havent figured it out yet.

  2. For everyone that misunderstands the short length or lack of survival horror, it’s just an epilogue.

Shadow’s of Rose concludes the Village of Shadows storyline.
While leaving industrial themes like the Connections or BSAA to be answered in the succeeding or surrounding subplots.

  3. Shadow of Rose had a cool story but the game mechanics were shockingly bad….just a big step back from The Village. disappointed as I really enjoyed the story but wow was that gameplay bad – rose is a 16 year old girl but moves like a 96 year old, her running is just walking – the camera is all over the place and the final boss battle was only difficult because the controls were deliberately janky….
i'd give the story 8/10 but the gameplay mechanics 4/10…I hope Capcom can somehow patch some of the jank. Without aim assist it feels like you're trying to aim while on a rollercoaster and your target is on bungie cord….

  4. My thoughts: I’m not sure if I liked or hated that this was basically the same as the main RE8 campaign. I did really like that this felt like a great mix of both RE7 and 8 and also had a much better balance of both the survival and horror aspect compared to RE7 and 8. Overall, I wouldn’t say it overly exceeded my expectations, but still a great game that I’m 100% playing again

  5. none that feels essential? BRO it had scarier parts in the house with the baby than the main story did.. The DLC made me love the game even more, im at 85 percent completion and im about to finish up the final 8 achievments this week, can't wait to 100 percent it. The key with this new resident evil is that you play it first time through on Hardcore difficulty, because if you play it a 2nd time you will have too much of an advantage that takes the scare factor of realizing it will take 6 headshots to kill one dragur. Its fun to have them a little spongey because otherwise the game can feel a bit linear once you know the jumpscares, plus the game spawns less enemies and more rescources on easier difficulties, which makes the game feel like more of a roller coaster than bumper cars.

  6. I love shadows of rose it’s short but sweet the stories amazing and ngl the controls felt clunky at first but I think it’s just bc the setting wasn’t built for third person walking but I had no troubles with it and I thought everything was solid overall
