The game opens with a news report describing the outbreak of the T-Virus in Raccoon City. The footage shows people collapsing in the streets, and riots breaking out across the city as the virus spreads. The situation rapidly worsens, and chaos ensues. This serves as a backdrop to introduce Jill Valentine, the protagonist, and sets the tone of desperation and horror.

The camera then focuses on Jill, who is at home, packing her belongings, trying to escape the city. She’s aware that the situation is dire, and she’s clearly been struggling to survive. At this point, you learn that the events of Resident Evil 3 are taking place shortly after Resident Evil 2, with the outbreak continuing to worsen.

As Jill tries to leave the apartment, she encounters Nemesis, a terrifying, bio-engineered monster sent by the Umbrella Corporation to eliminate the remaining members of S.T.A.R.S. The creature is relentless, monstrous, and nearly indestructible, adding an immediate sense of danger and urgency to Jill’s situation.

After a brief encounter with Nemesis, Jill narrowly escapes, and the game begins proper with her attempting to navigate through the city to find safety.
