Using a Flame Spray torch to successfully repair a broken and damaged gland. This gland is off a D10 Dozer blade tilt cylinder which has been damaged because the piston bypass valve got loose inside the cylinder! Repairing cast iron is always a challenge so we will be using our preferred method of metal powder and jet flame spray gun with oxy acetylene to repair the broken gland. We show the step by step process of building up the damaged surface using the flame spray gun before machining the part back to spec on the lathe. This job was a success & our customer is very happy!
In this video we are using:
– UTP Variobond flame spray gun
– Hafco TM-26120G Centre Lathe

This first job & video for 2023 is done! Really happy with how the part turned out, but what do you think was better…the repair or the Homey Cam?? 😂

the homie cam is lit!!
Awesome video❤
Love the videos. Y’all are awesome. Hope to see more homey cam. Was amazingly steady. Also dafuk does salubrious mean???
Still think y’all should make a kurtis facial expression video and one that is unedited. Best of luck to y’all this year and looking forward to more videos
Great video you guys, and hope you had a great Xmas! The new "Homey-cam" is awesome!!! Hope the new year is as awesome as well!!
Your knowledge on the pieces you work on is astonishing
Homey cam is the best cam
what brand/model electric banding tool do you use? I think I need to upgrade my manual bander.
What gets me is when they push production so much and destroy parts, like bores, articulations. Instead of just replacing parts it becomes a total huge job and down for a week or more. I've seen this happen over and over. But keeps the machine shops busy!
No chalk marks where it's f*cked, how do you even know what they want you to do? 😂
Just curious between flame spray and welding. Could you grind back the damage and build up the material with MIG welding and then machine the part back to spec??
The jet flame spray gun makes you more of an artist than a machinist. To build up material in a consistent fashion is like a sculptor adding clay to a piece.
The job came out better then new
Question for your next Q & A. Do you, or people you deal with, go to boneyards looking for broken parts for you to fix / refurbish to add to your swap out inventory?
Love the "choose your weapon" sequence in this – very John Wick.
Also, I did not know how much I needed Homey Cam until I got it.
Hmmm tens of thousands for repairs and equipments? Oooor a few hundted for good maintenance… obviously skip taking care of it XD
I've been watching for a while now and I gotta say as awesome as it is to watch the skill on the work amd watch yall, I had to just drop a note because of the homey cam. Awesome.
Yall are awesome, keep doing what you do. Cheers from Texas!
As always, very instructive your explanations about spray welding.
I've not tried it myself yet, but I was wondering if that kind of welding could suffer easily from delamination, due lack of penetration?
I've read on the AWS codes that the sole aceptable material to repair cast iron is to use nickel alloy, but that's about filling cracks… I don't know how nickel would behavior if used to replace a chunk of cast iron on a piece like that, what do you think?
Any way, it has convey me your indications about why to use spray welding instead of stick or flux welding on cast iron, not only to prevent hard spots for machining concerns but also bubbles on the puddle.
After all, you used cast iron powder only, without nickel?
Cheers from Spain, one more year.
The homey cam!!!!
Happy new year.
Hope this is a start of an awesome year for your wee team!
Hi guys, ripper channel!
Maybe a comical addition to your antics could be ‘name that thing’ starring camera girl.
Good job with what you do professionally too.
Awesome as always guys, first time I saw that spray transfer UTP kit, Max over at swan Valley was using one, amazing bits of kit 👍
would of been better on firebricks , bench takes out the heat
Кёртис , ты отдыхать умеешь?))
🦊👍
I'm sure you will be receiving a few flint guns in the post. Never use a gas lighter to ignite an oxy set. Cheers.
homey cam is my new favourite thing please we need so much more homey cam, also happy new year you three i hope you had a wonderful holiday and get to enjoy the new year to the fullest!!!!
I just have to say that Kurtis’s machining work and Karen AKA “da Kiwi” videography is awesome! Along with the new Homey cam of course! 🤓🤙🏾
