    Glares at me.

    "Don't look at me like that! I'm trying to help. To help you make your peace with this. Like she has."

    "What?"

    "I was the one… who poisoned her."

    Grabbing me by the throat "You monster! I should kill you right here, right now! Squeeze your tiny neck until you go limp, and rip you apart with my bare hands!"

    Choking "Please… She would have died in agony! My partner wanted to shoot her!"

    He drops me.

    "I talked him down, said the wolfsbane IV would do the trick. Why waste a bullet? We can always reuse the needle… Oh… Don't look so angry. I said what I had to. Now she's sleeping. If she dies, she's at peace. So much kinder than a silver bullet to the head."

    "How can you just stand there, justifying the murder you've committed?" He looks disgusted.

    "I didn't inject enough to kill her, you foolish boy! Or at least, not before you could find her."

    "So you wanted me to witness my love dying?! You truly are a monster."

    I reach out and touch his shoulder, but he jerks away. "No. I wanted you to find her, so she'd survive. But I couldn't let my partner think that! He'd have shot us both, and there would be no saving her! I was just messy with the needle. It was supposed to be just enough to put her to sleep for a while. But I injected too much. I… I'm so sorry."

    "If she dies, you will be."
