bob react to city morgue
44:45 u touched on something Vince talks about regarding his music, the dichotomy between the suffering and the beauty in where he’s from, Southern California
Great album of his! I really enjoy this from time to time. One of his best imo. I love Big Boy so I was happy to hear the concept and his involvement. It worked really well! Especially knowing it's not long form songs necessarily so all the skits and interludes are dope and add to it all. Again, great concept!
Vinsanity
Bob drop the deep house playlist
Vince Staples is great at presenting a situation or topic without telling you explicitly how to interpret it. In his tone and how he approaches things, he forces the listener to choose the meanings.
You gotta listen to Redemption by Jay Rock. He does the hook on Dont Get Chipped and that album is incredible
Some points on 'Run the Bands.'
Not only was Jesse Owens an olympic track star, he was a noted civil rights activist. Winning gold in the 1936 olympics in front of Adolf Hitler, protesting the Nazi salute on the podium with his gold medal. It ties back into the overarching theme of black vs white and racial injustice of the song.
'I'm not the one' could be interpreted as a self affirmation to not get caught, but it is mainly used as the expression "I'm not the one to play with." Vince is telling people to not try anything and risking finding out that hes not bluffing.
I love how the hidden kehlani feature is forshadowed earlier in the album
Vince is a highly underrated artist. Not one of his albums has the same sound.
I would also recommend Jay Rock: Redemption album. Highly underrated also.
Are you ever gonna get back to oxymoron?
Love it, should really do Ramona Park too, very interesting album, reckon you'd enjoy it
FM! is honestly one of my top 5 albums of all time. solid 22 minutes of no skips with a concept done to perfection, amazing beats and raps with no misses on features. So glad you listened to this
Mfs forgot about Dre and Bob forgot about clipping.
I miss this hungry energetic Vince. His new project is so slow I almost fell asleep
Bob's beef with genius annotations remains hilarious
This is one of the funnest albums of all time, legit feels like vibing to the radio on a summer day
All this Vince Staples is good for my heart thanks Bob🙏🏽
Wonderful album
Hey bob! since you mentioned house music at the beginning I would highly recommend checking out 99.9% by kaytranada! Its a great album with good features that you would understand.
Day 41 asking bob to listen to MIKE – Burning desire
Summertime 06 is one of the best rap albums period please do that reaction one day
I'm gonna add my voice to the chorus asking for Blu/Exile Below The Heavens. It was the best hiphop album anybody made in 2007
"I'm not the one.. don't slip" means "I'm not the one to test, don't let me catch you unarmed 'cause if I do I'mma kill you"
"Yanks" is slang for his set (YNNC – Young Naughty Nasty Crips), that's why he always wears Yankee hats even though he's from LA
FYI if you're black and you're from out of town… don't wear ANY sports caps in LA. Don't wear any blue, red, purple or orange hats. They all mean very specific things you're probably not aware of
My personal favorite Vince project, to this day, is still Shyne Coldchain 2
That bizarre contrast of life is exactly what it's like to grow up in the ghetto in California. It's beautiful and fun and pleasant and terrifying. People from other states don't understand how to read danger out here because a lot of times when people are about to go bad they don't act aggro… it seems jovial and then suddenly somebody (or multiple somebodies) is/are dead. It's weird. My dad is from the projects in the East Coast. His first day in Oak Park, Sacramento he was like "this is the ghetto? Everybody has houses and yards." That night there was a running gun battle on his street and he was like "okay this is the ghetto."
California was a weird place to grow up. I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else but it wasn't easy.
Thanks for all your hard work bob hope your feeling better
I first heard Vince when he was touring with JPEG and it was for this album. It wasn't long before I was through his entire catalogue. Gotta go through '06 when you get the chance.
