Putin's Surprise Visit to Mariupol Raises Eyebrows Amid ICC Warrant

Welcome to our channel! In this video, we bring you the latest update on President Vladimir Putin’s unexpected visit to the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The visit came a day after the International Criminal Court accused Putin of war crimes for his year-long invasion of Ukraine.
In the footage, Putin can be seen touring the city, visiting rehoused citizens, and receiving an update on rehabilitation operations from Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin. Mariupol, once known worldwide as a symbol of death and destruction, has seen some of the worst defeats during the invasion. In the bombing of a theater where families with children were taking cover, hundreds of people perished. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) also bombed the city’s maternity hospital, deemed a war crime.
Despite being accused of war crimes, Putin’s visit had the air of a defiant show of force. His spokesman stated that the action was legally “null and void” and that Russia viewed the questions the ICC raised as “outrageous and unacceptable.”
Since hostilities began, this trip marked Putin’s first to the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine’s Donbas region and brought him the closest to the front lines yet. Despite leading Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, Putin has primarily stayed inside the Kremlin. It contrasts with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who has made several excursions to the battlefield to raise the morale of his troops and discuss strategy.
During his visit, Putin went to a brand-new residential neighborhood that the Russian military had developed, which saw its first residents move in last September. Khusnullin informed Putin that residents have been “actively” returning and that the city’s center is undergoing significant renovations.
