In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Kid A album by Radiohead.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I’m Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician, on the road at age 17 for two years, then went part-time ever since, while holding day careers including chef and spiritual health care while raising a family.
As a producer I’ve made hundreds of my own songs for media and award winning documentaries etc. I’ve been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I mostly abandoned the prog genre in the 90s but have returned to it now with vigour 30 years later. So much prog! My own prog band was rejected by record labels as “too progressive’ in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk / acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electronic as well).

  1. In Limbo is my personal favorite on album. This and Morning Bell remind me of some songs from Can "Ege Bamyasi". But main riff sounds to me almost like the one of "Strawberry fields forever".

  3. i could go and google for it again but the idioteque "mono" computer tones / chords are from a very old, some say one of the first, songs made from just computer tones. radiohead chose to sample it. someone else may comment in here with the link.

  4. This record influenced a lot of indie rock bands in the early 2000s to take a drastic different approach to their music. The two that I think of the most are the Appleseed cast which took their music into more ambient spacey directions with their album Low Level Owl, and Unwound whose final album Leaves Turn Inside You was more on the progressive experimental side. Coincidentally these were both double albums, but the apple seed cast was released as two separate CDs 6 months apart much like today and amnesiac whereas unwounds was released as a two cd set.
Also I don't know if anybody else happened to point this out but Radiohead was massively influenced by Nine Inch Nails double album The Fragile. When they saw how low the sales were for that album it influenced them to release kid A and amnesiac separately.
I don't know if you ever got into any Nine Inch Nails but I highly recommend The Fragile if you like the more experimental ambient stuff
