Message Notes:
3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? 4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? 6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. — Psalm 6v3-10 (ESV)

It’s impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature.

How long Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me. — Psalm 13v1-2 (ESV)

It’s one thing to be saved, it’s another thing to be free

My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? — Psalm 6v3 (ESV)

Troubled – disturbed, hurried, anxious

4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? — Psalm 6v4-5 (ESV)

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. — Psalm 139v15 (ESV)

My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. — Psalm 73v26 (ESV)

I’m getting unhealthy when…
– I do God’s work to satisfy me, not God
– Pray about God working in my will not about me surrendering to His will
– Hide behind achievements to deflect the focus from my inner cracks and flaws
– Selectively apply biblical truth to avoid anything that would require significant life changes
– I stop changing because “I’ve arrived”

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. — 1 Peter 5v10 (ESV)

Restoring my inner life.
1. NAME WHERE YOU’RE AT

8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” – Genesis 3v8-9 (ESV)

HOW WE THINK INFLUENCES HOW WE FEEL

2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. — Colossians 3v2-3 (ESV)

2. BRING YOUR BROKENESS
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. — Psalm 51v17 (NLT)

God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I cleaned up my act, he gave me a fresh start. Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways; I haven’t taken God for granted. Every day I review the ways he works, I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes. — 2 Samuel 22v21-25 (MSG)

3. FIGHT YOUR FEELINGS
Every thought in your mind needs to be filtered. If you are going to survive this war, you need to be a domineering, controlling, micro-managing tyrant when it comes to your thought life. Any and all thoughts outside of God’s Word, you take captive, shut up, and expel. You give those thoughts no time. No mental real estate. No free pass. You throw those thoughts into prison. No, better yet, you send them straight to solitary confinement. And when you’re done, you throw away the keys. — John Mark Comer

4. REFRESH YOUR REVELATION
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. — Romans 12v1 (ESV)
