How soon do I need to cover the potatoes? They have not yet started to appear. Do I need to cover now to wait until they sprout through the dirt? I'm growing my potatoes in containers and trying to figure out how to cover the round containers. but I'm ecstatic to know that those nasty potato beetles can be deterred with mesh cover. THANK YOU!

Just found you😁
Can you do a video on when and how to harvest potatoes? Also do you need to replant every time you harvest one?
Excellent video.
How do you keep the boxes holding up with repeated rain?
Thank you very much!! I need to relax more and eat more veggies!!
do not use the big size hole netting thats cheaper. The birds get caught in it and die or are injured thank you.
Thank you Mark you always come through for us
I watched the box episode and now this one. Both are very understandable. I get scared to try due to failing but I am inspired to try. My question is when do i start the box potato if I am zone 6? Thank you!
Thank you for the information. I didn't know the holes were bigger on tulle. That explains how the white moths were able to lay eggs on my plants.
curious how do u keep ants out /off potatoes that are growing? ty
Could you use fine mesh window screen fabric?
Thank you! I am new to gardening so I need lots of advice.
I live in Florida and the sun can get pretty strong. can I use freezer cloth over the plants in the box to give a little shade, and will it keep the bugs out?
Hey, can I see what your set up looks like covered with the netting?
Thank you for your hoop set up.
Lol all moms of daughter know what tulle is! Great suggestion!
Those beetles have stripes. What are the 'lady bug' looking beetle that is orange with black dots? I thought those were potato beetles.
Nylon net is another fabric that can be used. Easy to double, comes in 60" widths. Love the idea of using window sheers…that fabric can be found at the fabric store, too. I don't know the price of that. Tulle and nylon net are different fabrics, both very reasonably priced.
To keep your netting down you can make a pocket(like for a curtain rod) and put rocks in it. In high wind it might move but it won't completely come off and blow away
I love r videos. They r easy to understand thank u
What zone are you in. Just moved to zone 7A not sure when to start potatoes.
Thank you for this video.. I especially love how you explain every step and close ups shots…About to watch all your other videos
Keep in mind tulle comes in different size mesh. Also if there is a great price difference tulle can be doubled to make laying eggs through it more difficult and definitely keep the leaves of the plants well away from the netting.
thanks for sharing . I am going to try this. GOD BLESS
Thank you for taking the time to show us all stages of pests ! I'm always battling pests and go a lil crazy on trying to catch(then smash) to research & record for future use.
Great presentation!!
Thanks. I will plant potatoes with this method. I expect harvesting will be easier. I have a mosquito net that I don't have a use for. I will see how that works.
FYI, the cabbage white is a butterfly, not a moth. When I worked at UC Davis, the professor studying them offered a free pitcher of beer at The Graduate to the person who reported sighting the first cabbage white of the year.
Where do you live and what time did you start this project? I'm in Colorado springs CO so I'm trying to figure out when I should put my sprouted potatoes outside! Thanks!
I’m excited to try this new method!
Thank you
Grasshoppers eat holes right through that insect netting in my garden. 😵💫 I did not have issues using it on potatoes, but for cabbage, they ate through it.
Sir, thank you much. So interesting for nature livers. Bless your Heart, from India.
Just found this. I love your videos. I've watched a couple of them already. They're very thorough and easy to understand. Are the instructions and plans for what you built on your website? I don't see it linked in the description to the building plans directly but I do see your website on. I'm doing a 20ft by 20ft garden this season and I've never done it before. I've only growing everything tropical and I'm deep in the Appalachian mountains so this is going to be interesting. I am going to be washing your videos all the time. Thank you for this
Ok, I understand the netting. What do I use for the hoops? HVAC tubing?
What about mosquito netting?
Thank you good advice.
Thx sir: gave me ideas to save $$$…
A lil tip on insect control, you can use 1 tablespoon of neem seed per gallon water to act as a natural and organic insecticide
Thank you so much. You are very informative which is most helpful and appreciated
Can you plant other vegetables besides potatoes in the boxes?
Good info–especially for newbie gardeners
I live in Montana I have grasshoppers that are like 2" long their huge, will They Chew through that netting. ???
For years I have used a third option for covering my hoops – "row cover cloth" which is not woven but is very lightweight and there are no visible holes. I really like it and have a very large roll of it.
I’m guessing we don’t have the Colorado beetle here In Scotland. I love the idea if using cardboard boxes. I’m going out today and will get organic potatoes ready to plant. Have boxes I’ve not recycled yet so I’m set to go. Glad I found your videos. This 73yo hasn’t grown potatoes b4.
13:13 I am in Ohio and growing my potatoes on a balcony. Do I have to worry about this beetle that you’re talking about?
