For me growing is a passion there is nothing more satisfying than a year round supply of home grown fruit and vegetables like carrots tomatoes cabbage beetroot melon lettuce parsnips cauliflower peppers potatoes runner beans broad beans sweetcorn etc.

The little tweety birds are giving me trouble right now. They are eating my lettuce and any seedlings i put out before i get them covered.
I found a peach with bites on them by orioles and a ripe one on the ground. They have been drinking from the hummingbird feeders, too. Since I pruned my tree to hang over my porch it will be easy to cover with tulle. Thank you for the reminder.

Off topic , all the potatoes that I've planted in pots or garden . The plants that are semi shaded through the day are triple the size of the full sun plants.
Hi Ivan I had a problem with sparrow's and starling's in my greenhouse. Sparrow's were after chard and spinach leaves and the starling's were after my blueberries! I made a frame with wood and chicken wire that I can put over the door. Problem solved.👍 Don't keep out slugs tho but does letbbees in😁

We have lots of different types of birds helping me in the garden by eating snails and other pests. Happily they aren't messing with our produce.🙂
that is indeed the downside, tho i never had problems with jckdaws or magpies when it comes to my crops, tomatoes, zucchini. but i did before i started growing my own food, feed them nuts whenever i was outside for a smoke, might be superstitious of me but perhaps they associate my garden with nuts instead or they have an unspoken pact that i shall provide sporadic grub in order for them to keep my plants safe, like a jackdaw 1920's mob haha
Thanks Ivan for this great update, I've had a minor problem with next door neighbours feeding birds in a small tray at ground level because they like feeding Woodpigeons (that don't need feeding at this time of year). The problem is that as I've told them is "if you feed birds on the ground, you feed Rats" and my camera picks them up coming over the fence into my property. They have raised the tray onto a table but the woodies and magpies are relentless so word to the wise if there are birds after your stuff the others will follow. Take care and all the best. Stevie
