Mail boat crew saves man swimming across Detroit River

A mail boat crew rescued a man attempting to swim across the Detroit River late Monday night. The crew of the U.S. Mail Boat J.W. Westcott II, including deckhand James Sharp and Captain Neil Schultheiss, found the man in a life ring near Windsor, Ontario, and brought him aboard. The swimmer, an American from Florida, appeared disoriented or under the influence and was transported to shore by a Detroit fireboat without any physical injuries.
