  5. Who are we to deny a blessing to someone who admittedly says they are sinning and need the Grace to remove the scales from their eyes and turn from wickedness? The blessing is the hope that with it comes change to the receiver/sinner. Without hope we have nothing!!! Stop denying sinners from being blessed!! It’s the blessing that can convict the sinner to sincere repentance and come to know the fullness of forgiveness.

I don’t think anyone can improve on this statement from Cardinal Müller, the former head of the Vatican’s doctrinal office: “For in the Bible, a blessing has to do with the order that God has created and that he has declared to be good. This order is based on the sexual difference of male and female, called to be one flesh. Blessing a reality that is contrary to creation is not only impossible, it is blasphemy." Müller wrote FS is contradictory because it reaffirms traditional Catholic teaching that marriage is a union between a man and a woman and that any sexual relations outside of marriage are sinful and not to be condoned. The Church cannot celebrate one thing and teach another because, as St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote, Christ was the Teacher 'who spoke and it was done' [Ephesians 15:1], and one cannot separate his flesh from his word," Müller wrote. Müller wrote although the church can add new sacramentals to existing ones, "she cannot change their meaning in such a way as to trivialize sin, especially in an ideologically charged cultural situation that also misleads the faithful." “And this change of meaning is precisely what happens in FS, which invents a new category of blessings beyond those associated with either a sacrament or a blessing as the Church has understood them," he wrote. Müller wrote priests should proclaim God's love and goodness to all people and also help sinners and those who are weak and have difficulty in conversion with counsel and prayer. “This is very different from pointing out to them with self-invented but misleading signs and words that God is not so demanding about sin, thus hiding the fact that sin in thought, word and deed distances us from God," he wrote.”

  9. This document from the pope could have been considered faithful if it had mandated the priest to specifically call for repentance and a turning away from their sin in his blessing .
    But the document seems to not need to even know about whether the couple is in a state of repentance or not . No questions need to be asked of the couple on this .
    The document at this point becomes blasphemous as when a couple presents themselves as a couple to be blessed the priest is blessing a relationship which is intrinsically disordered .Saying that only the good elements in the relation is being blessed also does not make it right as most sinful situations have good elements in them
    Could a polygamist who loves his wives and cares for them tenderly come to a priest along with his wives and ask for a blessing for them as a union of three. ??
    Surely not ..The preist is to explicitly call for repentance and a turning away from their sin in his blessing
    This document seems to suggest that this is not necessary and hence goes against the 2000 year tradition of the church for sure

    Blessings:

    1: God gives the gift of blessings even though we are sinners

    4 – any rite or prayer outside the indissoluble union between a man and woman, naturally open to the generation of children or contradicts it are inadmissible. Only in this context are sexual relations natural, proper and find their fully human meaning

    5 – the church does not have the possibility to bless unions of persons of the same sex

    6 recognizes that there could be confusion caused by blessing people not in a recognized Catholic marriage to not be seen as a Rite that is proper to the Sacrament of Marriage (solution below)

    8 – The types of blessings have evolved over time: blessings are done on people, objects of worship and devotion (rosaries), sacred images, places of life (our homes), of work, and SUFFERING (key to 31 below)

    9 – the blessing requires what is blessed be conformed to God’s will. A person seeking to sin isn’t doing this.

    10 – purpose of blessings: giving glory to God for His gifts, asking Him for favors, and RESTRAINING THE POWER OF EVIL IN THE WORLD. The person blessed should trust in the love that urges the OBSERVANCE OF GOD’s COMMANDMENTS.

    11 Liturgical Rites require that what is blessed corresponds with God’s designs written in creation (Genesis) and fully revealed by Christ the Lord. The only morally licit sexual relations are those lived out in marriage (our Sacrament). For the second time, it says the church does not have the power to offer a blessing that is a union that presumes to be a marriage (gay non-sacramental marriage so to speak) or to be an extra-marital sexual practice (gay couple)

    12 – warns against reducing the meaning of a blessing to a Sacramental marriage which would lead us to expect the same moral conditions for a simple blessing that are called for in the reception of the Sacraments. This could in the future lead us to overshadow the unconditional power of God’s love that forms the basis for the gesture of blessing.

    13 – use pastoral charity and warns against being judges who only deny, reject and exclude (We are not Baptists)

    19 THE BLESSING EXPRESSES GOD’s MERCIFUL EMBRACE AND THE CHURCH’S MOTHERHOOD and to use this to love another as brothers and sisters because God has the same feelings towards them. This is inviting you to love people that suffer homosexuality.

    Consistent with John 13:35, 2 Cor 6:18, Isaiah 66:13 and 1 Thess 2:7.

    20 – the person blessed is to be in need of God’s saving presence. To seek this blessing is to HELP US MOVE FORWARD, TO LIVE BETTER, AND TO RESPOND TO THE LORD’S WILL (see 31)

    21 – the person asking for a blessing is petitioning God’s assistance, A PLEA TO LIVE BETTER (31).

    Note to Father Martin: the people seeking this blessing come spontaneously with openness to transcendence, knowing they cannot do this alone, that they need God, THEIR DESIRE TO BREAK OUT OF THE NARROW CONFINES OF THE WORLD

    22 God’s mercy is infinite and the sin of the world is great (powerful)
    but not infinite

    23 Father Martin: these expressions of faith are found in a realm of greater SPONTANEITY

    24 – blessings should be simple and Father Martin: ALWAYS AVOID LITURGICAL CELEBRATION.

    25 blessings should not lead to narcissistic or authoritarian elitism. Basically saying don’t be a Puritan

    28 Father Martin – for the third time, they should spontaneously ask for a blessing like when walking on the street and someone asks for a blessing

    29 Everyone individually or with others can lift their praise and gratitude to God

    31 – the person asking for a blessing is knowing they are destitute and in need of help seeking a blessing so that relationships may mature and grow in fidelity to the Gospel, that they may be freed from their imperfections and frailties

    32 – they recognize themselves humbly as sinners

    33 – this blessing is not a liturgical Rite (like marriage) and is an invocation OF GOD’S HELP (31) by those that humbly turn to God

    37 is specifically for the German Bishops. The document itself is a rebuke to their errors. Father Martin needed to read this

  15. ACTIONS speak louder than words. Nobody will read a long DDF document but all will see with their own eyes the one Sunday a month when the local Priest invites all couples of any kind to "come up for a blessing" after Mass! Francis & Tucho know that: they’re ANTI-shepherds.

  20. I have read the document. The declaration of Supplicating Trust makes clear that same-sex and other non-traditional relationships cannot receive the Sacrament of Marriage; this Church’s teaching has not changed.
    Pope Francis bashing is primarily an American thing – so much hatred toward the pope by some Americans especially by the RadTrad "Catholics" there. We outside the US respect and honour the pope despite his flaws and limitations as the leader of the Catholic Church. Thank you for defending the Church and our pope. Greetings from Indonesia!

  21. Paragraph 31 explicitly says SSA COUPLES can be blessed. IRREGULAR Couples who live together are shackuping together, sin together breaking the 6th Commandment. So Cdl Mueller, Bp Schneider, the entire African conference of bishops are wrong? Sorry but this document is heresy. The pope is on VIDEO saying he wants SSA UNIONS. Stop mimimizing the seriousness of this historic apostacy.

  26. Rob – Please launch the Divine Mercy You Tube channel and listen to Father Chris Alar’s two videos on this subject (12/20/2023 & 12/23/2023. Especially 12/23/3023. Take notes). Those priests and bishops who are pointing out the confusing parts of the document are not attacking the Church. That includes Trent Horn. They have a right to ask for clarity. They’re not saying that Pope Francis approved same-sex unions. Listen to Father Chris Alar’s two videos before you judge. He was factual and charitable. I do agree that the mainstream media is the problem.

  33. God gives you free will, A will, and a brain. But some want you to throw that all away and do whatever the pope says he want you to do. They want you to be a doormat to all possible diabolical forces out there. People who don't know papal history really need to wake up. There has been some seriously diabolical Popes and Bishops in the past.There is even some comical catholic utube channels that have done videos on it if you don't like to read.

  36. Btw you’re definitely not an old dog! If I’m not mistaken, from some things, you’ve said you and I are pretty much the same age if not exactly :-). But as a woman, I also noticed the same thing. Younger people in droves don’t want to work at all or they think certain jobs are not good enough for them. It’s quite a phenomenal.

  41. I was waiting for this video Rob, I knew you were probably trying to make it!
    My TLM priest again today said that those bashing the hierarchy are wrong, and not behaving like Catholics. He indicated that he understood that this was seen as a big confusion but he urged us to understand that no matter the confusion, God will use this for His Glory and our good. He tells us all the time to turn off the media and pick up the rosary.

  44. Could it be Pope Francis is just testing the water before the storm approaches? I fear the wind of change. Maybe, it's the calm before the storm. Pope Benedict spoke about the dangers of relativism. Pope Francis should be unequivocal about homosexuality instead of saying it's a human condition. He deliberately sends out ambiguous comments on this topic which does nothing to enlighten the church stance. If the faithful don't understand then the faithful will become unfaithful and leave the church which is sadly currently happening. There's something wrong with the church and it needs sorting. When you go woke, you broke.

  47. I guess nobody in Germany read the document, because they are ecstatic and full speed ahead.
    Fr James Martin obviously can’t read either, because he is overjoyed, and probably, by now, has blessed several same sex couples. And if you think any of those couples have any intention of repenting for their acts of sodomy, you are naive. Their lifestyles have just been reinforced by the Church.
    There are a multitude of Church leaders, who are more intelligent ( which means they can definitely read ) and holier than you or I will ever live to be, that are now on record denouncing this document.
    Read Archbishop Chaput’s article.
    Read the CDF’s 2021 document. It clearly states that sexual relationships outside of marriage can not receive ANY blessing. That’s right – relationships.
    So what does this latest document do ? Essentially invents a new Pastoral Blessing for this category of relationships. It is primarily based on the teachings of the current Pontifcate.
    There’s no precedent for it. This is one reason why the document is problematic.
    The only way to fix this is for these folks to approach the priest as individuals, not as couples, and ask for blessings, like everybody else. Otherwise, it will be rampant with continuous scandal and abuse.

  48. The thing never was blessing everyone, the thing is that it is not allowed to bless anything and we need to discern if same sex couples form part of the things that can be blessed or not.
    Not wanting to extend too much this, I would ask: If nothing has changed, why this document talks about a theological innovation and a new kind of blessing?
