Parabellum: This Battle | Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Fr. Mike's Homily) #sundayhomily

Parabellum: This Battle

Observe. Orient. Decide. Act.

When we are faced with the challenges and obstacles of following Christ, it is easy to become overwhelmed. But we do not have to solve all of the potential issues. We are simply called to face this problem and take the next step.

If you would like to support Ascension Presents, send us a Super Chat / Super Sticker in the chatbox or send us a financial gift ( https://tinyurl.com/2mbu7tvx ). Your support helps us provide you with the Catholic faith formation media you know and love. Thank you!

If you would also like to make a donation to the Newman Catholic Campus Ministries at the University of Minnesota Duluth, you can donate here: https://bulldogcatholic.org/donate/

Finally, we also ask you to continue supporting your local parishes. Thank you and God bless you!

  1. Father Mike is like a treasure in the field ❀️! I’m so happy he decided to be ordained to be a priest. I can’t believe he came so close to chosing not to do it. I can’t imagine my life without Father Mike’s Homilies. His homilies along with the hallow app single-handedly contributed to my conversion this year. Now I have more joy in my life and I can finally appreciate all the blessings God gives me each day. I am changed and I never want to go back.

  5. Sorry guys but Catholicism is false i dont dislike catholics but i desperately want you guys to get saved by trusting in Christ ALONE which the catholic church doesn't do and you cant mix grace with works. Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, thenΒ is itΒ no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But ifΒ it beΒ of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” and by grace we are saved. The gospel is very simple, Jesus died for your sins was buried and rose again the third day. If you believe you have eternal life as a result then you have it. Salvation is by grace through faith. "In whom after ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy spirit of promise." "By grace you have been saved through faith, AND NOT THAT OF YOURSELVES it is a GIFT of God. Not of works lest any man should boast." Works is human effort of any kind, read the book of John. Jesus clearly gives the criteria for Salvation (unless you think he was lying), "he that believeth on the son hath everlasting life" stop being a work salvationist. "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by the faith of Jesus christ."

  8. I took notes on this.
"I trust that you want me here and if you want me to leave you will make it so clear that i will not be confused". Living with a covert narcissist is hard but i nerver think of divorce, so this must be where He wants me to me. I will trust. Thank-you.

  9. I could never live life thinking its a war and everyone is out to get you. ….never harm anything or anyone, help everyone and everything. God is Love. Love everything and you will understand. God is amazing and we wouldn't be here without God, so lets be the best we can be. NEVER HARM ANYTHING OR ANYONE. If you harm anything or anyone you are mentally handicapped. The pathetic devil is mentally handicapped. Don't be like that coward. Be an angel of the Lord. Love Everything. God bless everyone and everything.

  10. OODA, what a wonderful "formula" for living in a broken, ever changing world according to Gods will. "Playing with the nails", Wow! I followed Gods command to move 2,000 to be near my grandchildren. My directions and choices change daily. Some days i am to "be still", some days i am to be like David the defender, and other days i am to be the "shepherd" for these poor "sheep" who have never even been introduced to God's luscious fields. Thanks Fr Mike for putting all this into words and helping me to see why somedays i wait and some days He changes MY plans. God bless you, Fr Mike and Ascension.

  11. Orient.

    I’m here –
    I accept –
what would God want from me right now.

I have only just recently began to interact with life this way on an intentional basis. It works.

  13. God is so kind. Through this homily, I learned how to communicate with the Lord. For as long as I remember, I always ask what God wants me to do with this life, hoping that He will tell me how I should spend my entire life. Now I realized, each moment, to walk with God, the question is like what Fr Mike said here: God, what do you want me to do now? Thank you Fr Mike.

  14. This is the most impactful and beautiful homily I’ve ever heard. β€˜If you want peace prepare for war.’ I have been struggling with my faith recently. As things in my life have been difficult for many years and aren’t changing no matter what I pray for or do to make it better. This homily was a tremendous gift. Thank you. I am going to listen to it often.β€πŸ™πŸ½
