  1. I get what they were going for but i think it's way too busy. The main melody almost clashes with the new harmony they added. The mix definitely needs more work with this one. Also perhaps the composition too.

  2. You know what would be a good idea? If they make variations of this theme for every Hero, like for example for a Reaper POTG, the theme should have a sinister tone that represents the overall character, or Junkrat where the theme plays in a exaggerated manner that symbolizes both his goofy and unhinged nature.

  3. if you watch the older overwatch videos and trailers you'd notice this is actually the original version of POTG, while the one in OW1 is a less "heroic" version of it!

  4. I don't understand why people are so turned off by this variation of the theme. I think it represents the tension of the ongoing struggle, which is promptly followed by the intended resolution. Those moments where the strings really brings tension is to further highlight the resolution that comes immediately after in every chord.

In a stylistic way, it reminds me of the compositions of Hans Zimmer, which they could've drawn influence from with this iteration. Big swelling strings playing a tense countermelody to what is taking place in the brass, it's unique and tasteful. Not everything can simply resolve to the simple "Great job, you saved the day!" and have that go behind a character like Talon's MOIRA DPS'ing down the entire enemy team instead of healing. It's more fitting and uniform to whoever takes it.

Besides, I'm tired of hearing A min, F Maj 7, D Maj, F Maj, F to G Maj. The strings countermelody makes it interesting, and it transforms it into something that reflects the ongoing conflict. Now it's just as colorful as the rest of the game that's to come out. And for all the fellow music nerds, it comes out to this. A min Maj 7 (resolves to A min), F Maj 7 b5 (resolves to F Maj 7), the spicy D Maj b5 (resolves to D Maj), F Maj b5 (resolves to F Maj), F Maj b5 to G Maj to send it back out to the D min drone.

The music of the first one was more of "Hey, remember when I used to crush omics with my glorious hair? Yeah, good times."
The music of the second one is more of "Good job team, but it's not done yet. Get ready for the next one."

  5. Don't get me wrong, this is FANTASTIC…but do I really want a more sinister-sounding version to replace the triumphant, heroic version we've grown to love?
